Drink legendary. This distinct ruby beer’s sweet caramel and fruity aromas tease the taste buds. Brewed with smooth and rich Chocolate and Crystal malts & a blend of Fuggles and Styrian Golding hops. Expect a delicious full-bodied toffee flavour and a fruity finish of figs, raisins and dates.

0,5 l bottle from Lidl as Hobgoblin Ruby. A darkest copper in the glass with a more than one finger foamy light tanned head. Looks really good. Banana caramel smell with some malt. Tast is creamy malty, some fruity sweetness, cherry, increasing roasted malty. Some hop. More coffee in the second part. Nice one!

Bottle from Lidl I don't have cask version in fresh memory but this was also quite okay. Carame, malty with extra hops. More than enough.

500ml bottle [as Hobgoblin Ruby Beer]. Clear, redd-ish, dark brown colour with ruby glimmer and average, thick, creamy, moderately lasting and lacing, off-white to beige head. Fruity hoppy and dark malty aroma, hints of red berries, minimally grainy, bready and chocolately, malty background with a touch of treacle and pear (Grafschafter Birnenschmaus). Taste is fruity hoppy and rather dry malty, subtle residual sweetness, hints of dried fruit, a diluted touch of treacle and pear; dry finish. Creamy texture, smooth and soft palate.

6 year old bottle found in the back of my cellar !! Has a strong aroma of malts and biscuit, plus hints of boozy fermented apples. Pours a lovely shade of ruby reddish brown. In the mouth there is again a combination of malts and sweet fruitiness, with the fruits winning out this time. Hints of chocolate, lemons and corncob too. Seems to be a lot nice than I remember it – maybe it has matured ?

Mörkt bärnstensfärgad klar vätska. Kakig i doften med lätt antydan av örter, blommor och gräs. I smaken står mjuk kaka främst men även lätt karamell och mer blommor. Kort eftersmak.

Many thanks to SimonTomlinson for this bottle. Red fruity nose. The beer starts fruity and dry. Easy to drink with dry caramel and soft maltiness. Moderate bitter, very dry and soft in the aftertaste. Caramelly bitter, very nice.

5.2% bottle versus 4.5% can. The beer is malty and deep with lots of caramel. Intense caramel, slightly sticky with a deep malty caramel aftertaste. Deep caramelly, slightly malty sourness. Deep and round. Nice.
