Huge thanks to Erzengel for that one! As Hobgoblin Ruby. Bottle looks good. Beer in the glass brown coloured, small head. Dry malty aroma. Starts mild, malty, modest dry. More and more bitter notes, woody notes as well. Mild fruity touch. Finish dry malty. Okay.

Bottle on 13th February 2021 from a local branch of Tesco. Pours ruby brown with thick foam soon disappearing with scant lacing. Sweet caramel malt aroma. Nutty malts and tangy fruits in-mouth. A malty, but also bitter finish. Zingy mouthfeel and a fair amount of body.

500ml. bottle. @home, 06/02/2021 [#3.764 Global - #440 England - #3 Wychwood Brewery] Deep ruby to brown colour with a medium foamy tan head. Aroma: citrus and roasted malts. Taste: caramel malts and toffee. Bitter caramelly finish. Not in good shape. Next one please!

From the local Lidl. Ruby in color with a creamy white head. Aroma a mix of earth and caramel. Taste is moderate bitter with a light twist of cherry tang/sweetness to round out the finish. Medium to lightish body, moderate wateriness. Went well with the salmon from the grill.

Pours dark amber, beige tinted head, some retention but no lacing. Roasted malts, mild spice, stone fruits, flora and alcohol aroma. Taste of malts, chocolate, dried fruits particularly orange peel. Above average sweetness and bitterness. Moderate body, soft carbonation, quite smooth. It specifically doesn't hide the ABV so has one toe in the strong ale style despite it clearly being a bitter. It certainly is distinctive and I give credit for that. I just wished it was more moreish. What's the matter lagerboy, afraid you might taste something?. Great advert from old but this is hardly a gateway brew into bitters or non-lagers generally, assuming the recipe hasn't changed much. I wonder if it worked on some people back in the day.
