Bottle shared at the DSH tasting thanks to Deanso. Pours dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma of massive vanilla, slightly artificial and mostly overpowering, with milk chocolate, lactose and sweet malt. Flavour is light heavy sweet. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

What can you say? A truly superlative beer. Chocolate comes right up front in both aroma and taste, slight tingle of alcohol warmth at the finish. Sweet and smooth, chocolate lingers on the tongue. This is one to savor.

From the June 2013 3R6P tasting. +++ Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with faint orange highlights and a large foamy tan head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was cookie dough, strong chocolate, marshmallow, toasty malts and marzipan. The flavor was very strong cocoa, vanilla, toasty malts, marzipan and a bit of wood. Long chocolate and toasty malt finish. Thick full and creamy body. Excellent.

Poured from a 22oz bottle. Aroma has a definite English character to it with quite a bit of dark fruit esters including plum and prune. Some light tobacco and leather notes also present. Medium chocolate character with hints of alcohol and caramel. Pours dark brown but not quite black with a medium thick tan head that has pretty nice retention and slowly recedes to the edges where it lingers. Medium light lacing and medium sized legs. Flavor has a moderate sweetness to it with a ton of chocolate character. Light tobacco and leather with medium light dark fruit. Light caramel and toasted bread rounds out the malt notes. Faint alcohol spice in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium to medium full bodied with medium carbonation but slightly watery in the finish. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall a pretty nice porter with a lot of chocolate character. Its difficult to drink this and not want a big, richer stout though so I had to keep reminding myself that it was a porter. Pretty easy to drink, even on a hot day.

Bottle - Sweet cocoa and bourbon. Deep jet brown and a decent brown head. Chocolate syrup and light sweet barrel notes. Syrupy but really well balanced with cocoa throughout.

Bottle, sent by my good pal Toby in a sweet trade. Thanks man! A darker brown pour topped with a creamy finger of brown head. The nose is to die for; vanilla, milk chocolate, light roast, and espresso. Decadent. Creamy mouthful of sweet milk chocolate with just the right amount of barrel coming through. Very light on the bourbon and faint vanilla. The oak and roast really provides a sturdy balance to the sweetness. Reminds me of a really good chocolate chip cookie. Top notch brew. One of the best barrel-aged brews I’ve had in a while. I wish I would have shared this, but at the same time polishing off the bomber solo over the course of a couple hours wasn’t all bad.

22 oz. white wax top bottle purchased @ Oliver’s beverage center. Nearly dark black with thin white head. Nose is a milk chocolate bar melted in a porter. Cocoa up front with hints of vanilla, Lots of smooth chocolate and even a lactose sugar quality. It really tastes like Whoopers malted milk balls candy. Somehow it doesn’t become overly sweet. A light touch of oak in the finish, damn this is a nice desert beer!
