This complex Double India Pale Ale has an intense citrus and floral hop aroma balanced by a velvety malt body which has been augmented with lactose milk sugar. With this different take on an IPA, we have brewed an ale that is both please to drink, and once again, "Not Normal."

Bomber. Lots of aromas and flavors in this complex, nicely balanced double IPA. Medium amber cloudy body with an off-white, diminishing head. Strong hop aroma of orange, grapefruit, mango, peach with notes of husky grain. Very juicy. The flavor is moderately sweet and moderately bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and moderately to heavily bitter. Bone dry, too. Nice bitter aftertaste on top of a sweet orange juice/pineapple taste. Medium to full body with a velvety texture and moderate carbonation. Nice warming from the alcohol, but otherwise, it’s hard to detect. As nice as this is, it lacks the zip and drive of Dreadnaught. I was highly impressed with the first glass, but the second started to wear on me, especially the velvety, almost artificial sweetness. I wouldn’t hesitate drinking it again, though.

bottle from O’Donnell’s in Ft Wayne, draft from Trion in New Haven, IN - Copper pour with some light haze and a small white head. It has a big citrus hops aroma with ample grapefruit presence. The flavor is of course big on the hops and they’re great quality hops. The balance is excellent for the style as the malt and lactose smooth it out. I was skeptical reading the label, but the lactose sugar is definitely noticeable as this beer warms and works really well. Full bodied with easy going carbonation, this brew finishes crisp and bitter. Excellent!
