This is the OG (original gangstah) of our Black Damnation series and the one that started it all. This beer is a blend of Struise Black Albert and De Molen Hel & Verdoemenis imperial stouts. Both beers on the very edge of darkness, of which the brewers' minds both sit on the verge of insanity.
Black Damnation is black as hell, filthy rich in the nose and boasts massive taste. This brew is the perfect marriage of the sweet, unxious flavors from Black Albert and the bitter charcoal and coffee profile from the Hel & Verdoemenis. Good luck finding some, the last batch was made in 2010!
50% of Black Albert was used with another 50% of H&V. Black coloured beer with just a sliver of a dark tan head. Aroma is glorious & full of coffee, brown sugar, dark fruity chocolate. Flavours of H&V are quite evident, charcoal and mineral notes, chocolate, cocoa powder. Good coffee chocolate finish with good balancing bitterness and hops & sugar in the after taste. 2009 vintage 12% abv 2010 vintage 13% abv.

It pours a black color, with a huge brown head, persistent, ending with a strange effect of île flottante. Dusty aroma of burnt malts, too much; carobs, perfume, Asian shop, glue; later, chocolate; it takes a while before developing correctly. Good body structure; it has a strong flavor of roasted malt and chocolate, light spices and liquorice; there is some light residual sugar to improve the mouthfeel in the front, but it’s not sweet, and it’s dusty too; the mouthfeel is quite smooth. Medium to strong ending bitterness, playing a lot with the roasted malts. Solid, but it doesn’t go in my direction.

Black with a big and lasting light brown head. Aroma is fruity, chocolate, coffee. Dried fruits, sherry, alcohol, sweet cherries. Dry and roasted flavour, fruity complexity and some alcohol. I can’t make up my mind if I believe that some of the fruity notes could be brett, but I love it either way. This is a damn good cup of beer.

Bottled (from Ölkonsortiet). Close to pitch black colour, mediumsized brown head. Aroma is liquorice, roasted malts, alcohol and some caramel. Flavour is roasted malts, alcohol, sweet rye and lots of toasted notes. Also dark dry fruits. Complex and very pleasant to drink

Bottle, from beermerchants. Pitch black beer, tan head. Aroma of roasted coffee, wood smoke and dark chocolate. Flavour of roasted malts, dark roast coffee, definately some chocolate there. Has a sweet lightly hoppy finish. Very nice.

Bottle, De Molen. Black colour, small tan head. Aroma of sweet roasted malts and chocolate. Flavour is sweet, with roasted malts, dark fruits, sugar. This IP is too sweet; lacks bitterness and a good hop punch.

Bottle, at Copenhagen Beerfestival. The beer looks just lovely in the glass, with its pitch black body under a finger-thick tan head. Roasted and burnt nose with some charcoale notes and coffee. The flavor is balancing sweetness and roasted malts nicely, with bitterness, mostly coffee-like, and some charcoal. Full-bodied and warming, but not feeling boozy. A really nice beer, still there’s something I miss. Maybe the hops. Rating: 8-5-8-4-15-4.0. 090516

Lacings left as the beer is enjoyed, it won’t look much prettier than this. There’s a nice sourish touch to the aroma, with lots of roasted malts, as well as licorice and coffee. Super-smooth, full-bodied and slighlty warming as it slides down the throat, would like it even fuller though. Molasses, roasted malts, a delicious sourish, funky twist, coffee-like bitterness and alcohol in the flavor. Not much hops shining through, wonder how it would taste with lots of C-hops fighting for attention. It stays in the mouth for a long while, sourish, roasted and coffee-bitter, with a lot of licorice. After drinking some of the beer, the hops shines through in the finish, adding to the complexity of this beer. Just lovely! 100421

Bottled at Belgobaren, Stockholm. Very black, small beige head. Sweet and roasty. Ashy and a bit fruity with notes of asphalt. Full bodied wit chocolate and brandy. Intense, but staying short of becoming inky. Everything fits together fine, but this concept of über-imperial Belgian stout does not really do it for me.

33cl Bottle, a birthday gift, from De Bierkoning. ABV 13%. Pitch black colour, huge creamy beige/brown head, like chocolate mousse. Aroma of burnt malts, espresso coffee, tar, liquorice (drop). Flavour is sweet, malty, surprisingly soft, chocolate, tar, liquorice root, coffee, hoppy bitter finish accompanied by a good load of sweetness. Alcohol is not noticed at all. Fullbodied, thick oily mouthfeel, smooth and soft carbonation. This beer has the sturdy flavours and soft creamy mouthfeel of the Hel & Verdoemenis and the sweetness of Black Albert. A real treat.

Bottle 33 cl. Completely opaque black with a dense and creamy light brown head. Distinct aroma of burned malt and vanilla. Very full-bodied, hard roasted malt and sweetish dried fruit and vanilla. Alcoholic finish. 160509

The bottle looks really good, the beer in the glass also. Starts strong malty, prickly, notes of coffee. Finish gets drier, not too scratchy. All in all a mild and soft Imperial Stout, but a good one, of course. Thanks to Bierkoning for the bottle!
