This is an aged Belgian red ale, which is ‘ripened quietly in oak barrels for two years’, according to the label. It has an extremely pungent aroma of rich grapey fruit, with acidic notes, very much like a slightly sour red wine or possibly a gueuze. In the mouth it is slightly sweet, extremely acidic and fruity, with grapes and even cherries discernible, and very lively. Despite the sweetness it is not at all cloying, even thin, with little or no trace of malt. Finish is sharp and fruity

33cl bottle. Pours a dark muddy cloudy brown with a thin beige head disappearing quickly. Aroma is fruity, oaky, vinegar. Taste of sweet and sour fermented fruits, sugar, oak notes, cherries, vinegary, sharp and acidic. Medium body, moderate carbonation. I want to love this style but find the vinegar flavour almost overwhelming.

Strong acidity, very light vinegar. Not so sour on the palate. Toasty and caramel and fruity notes. Vinous. Light vinegar. Fruity finish. Moderate carbonation, medium body.

Ruby red colour, small head. Intensive complex aroma of red wine, red fruits, oak, some vanilla hints. Tart. Taste is even better. Red wine, cherries, vinegar, vanilla, sour. Lovely cherry like aftertaste. Medium body and carbonation. Low bitterness. Awesome.

Lovely sour nose gives up oak and vinous notes as well as heavy acidity. Pours brown-red with the slightest of haze and a brief off-white head lacking lace. Taste gives off a nice mixture of tart raspberry and lemon notes with a modest cherry sweetness and mild oak-vanilla on the back end. Sour but not face-burningly so, and the finish leads more towards fruit juice than wood. Sparkly texture fits the style Good, but lacks depth.

Tap at Bishops Arms Östersund. This is an instant smile beer. A sour beer that I could just keep drinking by the gallon as it is never too much. That might place it under the more spectacular beers of Cabgillion/ 3 font but I'd choose rodenach for the long haul. Murky colour. ----- Re-rated, bottle from Bierland in Belgium. Im quite shocked to be honest by the Grand Cru today. Again it is murky, almost pooey water colour. But there is no aroma coming off it and the whole taste feels detached. Like water and alcohol and off cherries together. Moments of glory but I am genuniely shocked compared to my previous experiences of all forms of Rodenbach. 4 months before Sellbydate. Down from 4 to 3.3 ----- Tap at the Bishops Arms Östersund. Back to being on a higher step. 3.3 to 3.7. (29/10/19) ------ Tap at the Bishops Arms Östersund. 3.7 to 3.9. Just a lovely beer. Barrely vinegar aroma. Pleasing.
