This is an aged Belgian red ale, which is ‘ripened quietly in oak barrels for two years’, according to the label. It has an extremely pungent aroma of rich grapey fruit, with acidic notes, very much like a slightly sour red wine or possibly a gueuze. In the mouth it is slightly sweet, extremely acidic and fruity, with grapes and even cherries discernible, and very lively. Despite the sweetness it is not at all cloying, even thin, with little or no trace of malt. Finish is sharp and fruity

330ml bottle. Clear, reddish brown with a lively off white head that quickly fizzed away to nothing. Aroma is tart apple, cider-like. Fruit dominates the flavour, sweet at first, mellowing to toffee apple and finishing with a sour hit of sherbet.

Bottle from the LCBO. Clear dark copper with a small short lived tan head generating patchy lace. Nose is dark fruit, red wine, wood, vinegar. Light toffee sweetness followed by a medium+ tartness of cherries and wine. Mouth is medium slick with active carbonation. Complex and well balanced. 9-/3+/8/4/15

Aus der Flasche im 2012-02 getrunken. Eine wunderbare Harmonie zwischen Frucht und Säure. Mein all-time favorite in diesem Bierstil.
