This is an aged Belgian red ale, which is ‘ripened quietly in oak barrels for two years’, according to the label. It has an extremely pungent aroma of rich grapey fruit, with acidic notes, very much like a slightly sour red wine or possibly a gueuze. In the mouth it is slightly sweet, extremely acidic and fruity, with grapes and even cherries discernible, and very lively. Despite the sweetness it is not at all cloying, even thin, with little or no trace of malt. Finish is sharp and fruity

Bottle. Color: Bit hazy dark reddish brown, small light brown head. Taste: Very nice and smooth, complex mix of sour and medium sweet notes. Light hints of wood. Fresh and fruity (berries, cherries). Below medium carbonation, above medium body. Tending to wine but still a beer. And a very good one, wonderful to enjoy at a relaxed evening. One of my all time favorites.

From old tasting notes. Clear garnet colored hue with a creamy tan head. Intense brandy-like toasted malt nose is complex with hints of yeast and berries. Foretaste is strong, sweet and tart all at the same time. Midtaste becomes acidic and sour, almost breathtaking. Finish is mouth puckering sour. Long tart aftertaste. Very unique and very good.

Sour cherries, oak, red wine, cider, slightly lactic. Starts out dry, builds up into a nice tart note that lasts long into the finish. Love!

Pour is a dark brown aroma is a huge red wine vinous note with some oak and sourness. Flavor is supper tart cherry with some apple cider vinegar and sour bacteria notes. Finish cleans the palate quickly for another sip. All things sour and tart. Even if this style is not your thing this is still one to try just for the blending of old and new beers alone. Great beer! Will this be worth it after the heartburn later? Only time will tell.

10/13/12/13/9/13
