This is an aged Belgian red ale, which is ‘ripened quietly in oak barrels for two years’, according to the label. It has an extremely pungent aroma of rich grapey fruit, with acidic notes, very much like a slightly sour red wine or possibly a gueuze. In the mouth it is slightly sweet, extremely acidic and fruity, with grapes and even cherries discernible, and very lively. Despite the sweetness it is not at all cloying, even thin, with little or no trace of malt. Finish is sharp and fruity

Fles geprobeerd met LiekevdV. Het is een donkerrood bier met weinig schuim. Het heeft een zurige wat muffe geur. De smaak is zurig en wat fruitig.

Decent tartness, perfume, bit of cherry, marzipan. Sourness and flavour comes in a hit, but the finish is sweet and lingering.

I bought the bottle in 1986. Aroma: wood, cherries, sherry. Carbonation has partly disappeared. Still sour taste, but the intense sourness has eased away somewhat. Cherries, wood, chocolate and porto in the very complex taste. Almost creamy cherry aftertaste. What a great and very special beer after all those years!! Re-rate "fresh" beer best until 3/04. Creamy head. Oak, apple and cherry aroma. A good deal of sourness. Oak, cherry, some fruity sweetness and creaminess in the flavor. Has this beer become sweeter as it was some 15 years ago? It remains a beer of great depth and high quality, but I'll deduct 0,2 point from the original rating. Another re-rate: most recent Palm-Rodenbach version. Great aroma: caramel, oak, mustard. Rather vinous. Sweetish flavor: cherry, oak. Tart, but not as tart as it was 10 years ago or so. Grapefruit and even banana. Wunderful beer, even now. Not the dominating sours of the past, and I would like it less sweet, but that is partly restored by the complexity. 9 4 8 3 17 = 4.1

Barwa ciemnorubinowa/ miedziana, lekko zamglone, piana w kolorze zabrudzonej bieli, niezbyt obfita, umiarkowanie trwała. W aromacie nuty winne, lekka skóra, trochę szampańskie, octowe. W smaku wytrawne, sporo nut octowych, kwaśność niska do średniej, trochę szampana, nuty wytrawnego wina, sporo drewna i tanin. Po przełknięciu dochodzi sporo przypraw, mocno drapią w gardło. Wysycenie niskie do średniego, ciało średnie, piwo złożone i bogate. Warte polecenia każdemu.

#fakevintage 11/22/17, lighter than yesterday's rodenbach but also colder, more oaky sweet sour cherry notes, still a crisp finish.

Bottle at Taps Beer Bar, Changkat, Kuala Lumpur. Poured murky medium brown with a lasting frothy off white head. The aroma is malt, vinegar, molasses. The flavour is moderate sour with a light, crisp, yeast, tart fruits, vinous, oaky, big molasses palate. Medium bodied with average to soft carbonation.

Bottle. Minimally cloudy dark red/magagony with a small white/beige head. Aroma of vinegar, cherries, red berries, sherry and wood. Taste of red berries, wood, malts and sherry. Sour, tart and moderately bitter. Medium to strong carbonation. Complex and super refreshing. A beer to sip and savour but it's so tasty that I couldn't help myself and almost chugged it...World class.
