Brewed in the classic Scotch Ale style dating back to the 1700’s, with a deep reddish brown color. Full of body, sweetness and flavor. Higher in alcohol content but possessing a smooth and lightly hopped finish. Best served at 45 degrees F in a room temperature pint glass. For the ’Big Beer’ drinkers among us.

It’s gotta be me, as I just don’t get a lot of flavor out of this. Poured perhaps a bit cold with a modest light tan head that soon settled and some lace. Color is a clear mahogany with some bubble trails. Aroma is very malty, toffee, caramel, hint of smoke, grain. Flavor’s kind of bland; not as pronounced as nose, some tang up front, only a suggestion of scotch ale. Body/carbonation are excellent. Finish is like flavor, a slightly nuttiness lingers and that’s it. Meh.

Bottle. Deep amber body. Short, off-white head, mostly diminishing. Aroma of caramel, toasted grain, smoke. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately bitter and lightly acidic. Tastes of caramel and peat with a tart, lightly vinegary flavor in the finish. Medium body, watery texture and lively carbonation.

Pour is a brown with a small white head. Aroma is chocolate malts with some earthyness. Flavor is again strong malts with a nice peat-earth aftertaste. A decent beer made for slow sipping.

12 once bottle courtesy of Mr. Pickles. Thanks! Opened 5/7/10. Pours a hazy red color with a medium tan head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of caramel, earthy peat like notes and faint hops. The taste is caramel, toffee, nutty notes, coffee and a mildy hoppy finish. Medium bodied and quite tasty. I’m glad to finally try a beer from these guys.
