This robust dark ale is surprisingly smooth and drinkable. Caramel, molasses and chocolate flavors fill the palate. Its sweet start is perfectly balanced by a roasted dry finish.

[2/21/15] Draught at BJ’s Mission Valley in San Diego. Clear dark brown with a beige head. Aroma of chocolate, roast and nuts. Sweetish flavor, somewhat roasty, with some chocolate. Medium-bodied, quite rounded. A decent one.

Somewhere between a porter and a dry stout (what’s the difference anyway, they say). Brown tinted red, creamy khaki head. Nose was big on coffee and cocoa, leading to a roasted finish that hinted a bitter hops and bitter/tannic roast malt. Fairly soft palate, creamy texture, seemed almost nitro like but I don’t think it was.

On tap. Pours a clear dark brown with a light brown head that dissipates to the edges and laces slightly. Aroma has a good amount of smoke with roasted malts and a touch dark grains. Flavor has a good amount of smoke with light roasted malts and some sweet dark grains.

Brown amber hues. Gigantic roast nose. The taste is almost creamy. Like half and half ANd a tall cup of coffee. Very impressive. Drinkable and easy.
