This robust dark ale is surprisingly smooth and drinkable. Caramel, molasses and chocolate flavors fill the palate. Its sweet start is perfectly balanced by a roasted dry finish.

tap from the Boulder brewpub - Pours dark brown with a roast malt aroma. The flavor is dark roast malt with a little coffee. I think the body is too thin. Overall it’s drinkable but underwhelming.

From tap at the Elk Grove location. Pours clear and golden deep amber to hazzlenut dark brown. Small off-white head. Roasted caramelish aroma. Roasted malt flavoured, caramelish rather than dark roasted malt. Sweet and toffee caramelish finish. Subdued bitterness.

Draft. On nitro. Creamy, lasting head (as would be expected on nitro) atop a dark brown body. Pleasant aroma of chocolate milk, coffee, caramel, roast. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and lightly bitter — far less bitterness than lots of porters. Light to medium body with a nice, creamy texture and soft carbonation. An enjoyable porter, though well on the sweet side. A little more bitterness in the finish would have helped the balance.
