12 oz. bottle, "Batch No. 06." Pours a slightly murky brown with a chalky layer of foam. No worries about smell, the smoked malt is right there and pretty much equal to the German style. Smell also has a bit of phenol to it. Well, that’s the chance with an undated import bottle (and also a characteristic of smoked beer). But I do find it pretty tasty. Smoky, but not overwhelmed with bacon or… no, there’s a distinct thread of gouda cheese at the back of my palate. But it’s worth finding. Not very complex, but this has a strong malt backbone with some sweetness to give it more roundness than "just" a smoked beer. Sticky malt finish.

Courtesy of Quake1028. Pours copper with a thin wisp of a white head. Well almost no head. The aroma has some sweet notes, hints of dark fruity esters and very mild smoke. The taste however is fairly bold, a bit overly bold considering this is a lager, with a sizeable smokiness up front backed by some sugar sweetness that slowly turns malty sweet into the finish. There’s just a faint note of noble hops way out in the back.

Bottle. Pour is a dark amber/brownish copper with a pretty big head and sweet caramel/bread dough and nut aromas. Smoke comes through in flavor much stronger, however and it is fairly interesting to see how it mixes with the flavors that are also present in the nose. While it is fairly interesting to see how this plays out in a \"lager,\" it sure doesn’t hit a chord with me...

Pour is a dark red with a tan head. Aroma is mildly smoky with some biscuity malts. Flavor is again a very mild smoke with a nice roasted malt. You probably could not handle more than one of these in a night but this is easy to drink for a smoked as the smoke is very subtle. Deffinatly not a bacon bomb.

batch 05. Pours amber with a quasi non existant head. Nose is lightly smoky. Aroma is a sweet and enjoyable smoky. Some caramel malt. Highly enjoyable. This is a a great beer to start with if you plan on trying stronger more intense flavored Rauchbier.

12oz bottle. Transparent amber-caramel color. Smoky sweet aroma brings you back to Bamberg. Very smoky in flavor, with the full malt sweetness that you’d find in the best Rauchbiers. Moderately high alcohol and accompanying warmth don’t really help to accentuate the smoky, smooth qualities of the style. Other than that, a really great beer.

Defunmada allright! Smells like dull bacon. Iced tea color. Ooooooh, smoky meat taste. Rude and over the top. Very unique, a rare taste in ale or lager. Strong and rude and distasteful, way to much sensory impact for my girlie taste buds. Too smoky with more charred personality. Less enjoyable than most stouts and porters. Overall, like many Eisenbahn, too much for the style. Almost makes my gag reflex kick in near the end of the session.

Bottled. Dark amber, creamy beige head. Smokey sausage aroma. Sweet and creamy, very soft, with beechwood smoke covered in toffee and caramel. Low bitterness. Well structured.

Pours bright copper into a Shaker. Fluffy white head recedes with no lacing to skim surface. Crisp and sweet caramel upfront, with a lasting smoke finish.

bottle - Pours amber with a one finger head. The aroma is caramel malt and light smoke. The flavor is sweet caramel malt with mild smoke notes. The body is light to medium and it finishes with the slightest hint of bitterness. It’s fairly good, but could use more smoke. edit: Rating #1100 - I wasn’t expecting the music and the opening accordion notes actually made me jump. heh...
