The underrated dark horse of the original Augment trio; Patternist gained a massive following thanks to its no frills El Dorado and Simcoe hop bill, albeit hopped up to the absolute nines, and its ornate tiling artwork garnering amazing feedback. We’ve revisited beer two of the three original Augment beers with another run in tallboys, and treated with all the new techniques we’ve learned in the last half a year. Expect all kinds of high juice and low bitterness notes bursting from this incredible IPA – welcome back, Patternist.

Growler. Moderately hazy gold with a dense white head. 3+ Aroma of grapefruit, light bread, some pine. Creamy - edging up on chalky - texture. Quite traditional American hop aromas are rendered softer on the palate but there are still zesty overtones to the citrus. Some peach in there too. I would have liked a little more bitterness. Good.

440 ml can from MBC, canned 18.02.20. Orange, hazy body, with a medium, fluffy, off-white head. Aroma of lychee, mango, pineapple, melon, dankness, pine, vanilla, some oats. Tastes quite similar, with more oats and earthy notes. Medium, oily mouthfeel, with an average carbonatoion. Finishes medium bitter, moderate dry, earthy, oaty, mineralic, dank, piney, with moderate tropical fruits. Tasty. Quite typical NEIPA, while very well balanced, with loads of juicy tropical fruits, combined with a dank and piney character and a smooth, oaty body. Very quaffable stuff. Score: 8 / 4 / 8 7 4 / 16

Hazy IPA from a craft brewery in Wales I was not yet familiar with, thanks to 'BeerFreakChick' Dinka for the recommendation (and delivery). Yellowish egg-white, thick, large-bubbled, papery lacing, opening head on a cloudy apricot blonde beer with ochre-orangey tinge. Aroma of freshly mown lawn, damp marijuana, dough, green mandarin, crushed peanuts, fresh leek, unripe mango, wormwood leaf, green olives. Fruity, juicy onset, hinting at kiwi and pomelo with even an early hint at citrus pith, quite subdued in sweetness, medium carbonated; soft and bit creamy body. Doughy malt 'soil' with a remarkably peanutty aspect to it - unusual in this style, yet remaining subtle - leading to an oily finish aromatized by aspects of fried groundnut oil, grapefruit flesh and unripe mango with a remarkably 'green', weedy aspect to it, as well as more bitterness than I am used to from a hazy IPA - even if juiciness still gets the last word. Somewhat unusual for a NEIPA (or at least a NEIPA-inspired ale), largely qualifying as one but in an atypical sense, with more 'greenness', 'peanuttiness' and bitterness to it than is typically the case. Took me a while to get used to, but enjoyable enough.

Pours murky yellow with a large head. Fruity aroma with lots of pineapple and mango. Rich and fruity flavor with lots of resin and pine needles. The hops burns a bit at the end. Pretty god.
