Farmstead® Wheat Ale Aged in Oak Barrels with Cherries
Flora (1915-1967), Edward's sister, as well as the name of our wheat Farmstead® ale. Each blend of her namesake beer rests in oak for an undetermined period-from many months to several years -and embodies our progressive vision for Hill Farmstead, a pursuit guided by natural intuition, evolving experience, and optimistic forecast. On occasion, we select a portion of Flora and age it on a blend of local cherry varieties, as a means of highlighting the sympathetic natures of beer in barrel and fruit in season.

Bottle at the house on Martha’s Vineyard. Batch 1, picked up via trade. Pours mostly clear pink-gold with a modest, frothy white topping. Gorgeous beer, lovely tart and lightly juicy cherries, restrained acidity, nips of salt, lemony bite. Light bodied with delicate, massaging carbonation. Cleansing finish, more fresh, tart cherries, subtle jammy berries, more refreshing acidity. Outstanding. This beer was bottled in January 2015 and it’s phenomenal today.

375mL bottle listed as 2018 harvest at the brewery, 4/7/22. Beautiful medium intensity cherry red, good clarity, with a small, pinkish head that fades to ring quickly. Oh yeah. Intensely juicy, moderately spicy, balaton-forward nose slowly let's the meatier, deeper montmorencies in. Spicy cherry pie with very soft lactic acidity and easygoing, aromatic Brett. Red wine, cranberry and very minimal, cracker and wheat-like malts as an afterthought with no alcohol or flaw. Light, fruity and tart in the mouth with strong acidity balanced by cracker and wheat-like grains. Somewhat thin on malt, overall, though the cherries are stunning.

Bottle received in trade. Very hazy golden pour with red hues and a small offwhite head. Lemon, cherry, pleasant funk, light herbs. Light sour, fruity and funky. Dry and tart mouth. Very pleasant but the cherries hides the lovely Flora base slightly!

Poured from a bottle. Aroma is fairly cherry forward with some light oak and grain notes. Touches of other light stone fruit and a bit of phenolics. Medium light acidity. Pours a hazy, orange red with a small, slightly pink head that recedes fairly quickly to the edges. Medium lacing and small legs. Flavor is slightly sweet with a bit of a cherry juice character. Light acidity with hints of stone fruit and pineapple. Faint oak character with medium light bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium light bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice beer, but it is perhaps a bit too cherry forward causing the base beer to feel a bit left behind. Some light funk and stone fruit character.

375mL bottle, pours a cloudy orangey pink with a small off-white head. Aroma is lovely, with sweet cherries, lovely funk, and some residual oakiness. Flavour is huge on the cherries, with wonderful funk and bit pithy notes. Brilliant incorporation of cherries in here. Absolutely delightful variant.
