Barrel-Aged Rye Wine

Singular in heft and layered with symphonic grace. Lofty notes of maple, brown sugar, and candied pecan suggest sweetness before a dry, rye-forward terminus.

Super boozy up front then mellows out to be very smooth through the finish. Classic dark beer flavors, kinda raisin-y, rye notes pronounced

Pours an odd reddish (almost pinkish) brown, with no head. Aroma of booze, booze, and more booze. Flavor of whiskey, some wood. It's very sweet and boozey. Mouthfeel might be a bit on the thin side, but who's looking at mouthfeel with something like this? You really want to sip and savor this one slowly, what with the huge ABV.

12oz can from Steve. Dark brown pour with light coming through. Aroma and taste are malty, rye, brown sugar and lots of whiskey barrel. The rye works well here, giving this brew a musty edge. Plenty of ABV to go around...

A clear reddish copper ale with a thin lacing mocha head. In aroma, sweet fruity caramel malt with loads of vinous notes, dark fruits, molasses, alcohol warmth, very nice. In mouth, a nice sweet fruity caramel malt with loads of dark fruits, plums, licorice, alcohol warmth, very nice and complex. On tap at Kedzie location.

On tap at Essen House. Pours a deep gold with a light brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma is full of rye and caramel with toffee and sweet grains backing. Flavor has a combination of toffee, sweet grains, caramel and a bit of rye barrel backing.

Bottle courtesy of linusb. Pours clear pale reddish brown with a small offwhite head that leaves a small trace on the glass while dissipating. Smell is malty and slightly boozy with sweet dark bread, caramel, toffee, vanilla fudge, charred wood, moist grass, pine needles, resin, lemon zest and hints of solvents and alcohol. Taste is sweet, bitter, malty, tiny spicy and tiny boozy. Mouthfeel is round, tiny astringent, slightly boozy and medium bodied. Finish is sweet and bitter with caramel, peppery rye bread, peppery barrel character and resinous wood. Decent but a bit too hot atm. --- Beer merged from original tick of Ryeway To Heaven on 11 Mar 2016 at 23:27 - Score: 7. Original review text: Bit thin for the hefty abv. Very hot. Peppery from both barrel and rye. Good beer but too thin and hot.
