Key Lime Tau (2π) was brewed in collaboration with Hawkshead Brewery (UK) as part of the Trans-Atlantic Rainbow Project, a series that challenges brewers to come together and brew a beer inspired by a color. In its third year, the 2015 project involved seven UK breweries, each paired with a different American brewery and randomly assigned a color.
Key Lime Tau (6.3% ABV), brewed to embody the color green, is a Mixed Culture Fermentation Ale aged in Oak with Lactose, Fresh Lime Peel and Fresh Lemongrass.

Bottle. Sourish, but not in a good way. Flowery soapy lavender influence. Not much more hiding away here.

Bottled 330ml (AbM)
Hazy orange-amber color, small steady off-white head. Aroma has lime, lacto, fruityness, sweet bisquit base from the pie - yes key lime pie aroma. Medium-bodied. Aroma has also lime, pale maltyness, cracker, cake sweetness. Citric and balanced. Interesting but not something to drink in quantities.

Keg @ North Bar, Leeds. Cloudy golden coloured ale. Fairly sour, with a light lingering sourness in its aftertaste. It’s a little more complex in its nose, with as berry sweetness alongside aniseed and marzipan. There some mild fruity flavours too.

Bottle at home in London - thanks to one of my beer bros for hooking it up (think it was Matty-0). Pours unclear orange-gold with a small, frothy white head. Lots of fun happening in the nose, with definite lime zest, some bready malts, ginger snap cookies, lemon peel. Light to medium sweet flavour with restrained acidity, some lemony tartness, more lime zest, sturdy bready malts, actually some sweet pie crust. Medium bodied with average carbonation and massaging texture. Finishes with a bit of oily lime peel, mild alcohol warmth, lightly toasted crust, hints of ginger, impressions of cinnamon, more zesty citrus fruits. A little bonkers, but it all comes together quite well and, in the end, is both very interesting and immensely drinkable.

330ml bottle, shared with Blackhaddock & Simon F. Firstly the brilliant lime-green wax seal brings out the colour vinyl nerd in me, so a plus point before even opening. Secondly, this is by far my favourite of the Rainbow Project this year. Huge keylime aroma. Lovely jellybean-sweet lime cheesecake taste. Creamy and luscious. All round ticks all the boxes.
