A darker, slightly sweeter beer than its blond counterpart, Loterbol Bruin is a delicious strong Belgian ale, brewed in tiny batches at Belgium’s smallest brewery. Highly drinkable, even at 8% alcohol, this beer lives up to its name, which translates roughly to ’prankster.’…

11.2oz bottle. Deep, elegant, solid Brown color. Frothy, cloudy head. Smooth and very sweet, with an intense yeasty pungent flavor. Reminiscent of that candi sugar taste, but I guess they get all those funky, sweet flavors from the malt, yeast, and hops. The latter help to make this beer crisp and drinkable, but this one is in no way even approaching a hop-bomb. A little sweet and pungent for me at first sip, but with such a great aftertaste and all those great yeast flavors, I can see myself going back for more of this one.

Bottle shared by Marcus. Aroma of polished caramel. Brown color with a minimal tan head. Medium jbody with fizzy carbonation. Nice light yeast over some mildly roasted caramel and light fruits. Finish is slightly dry. It is just wonderful stuff.

A dark clear brown ale with a thick creamy light moka head. A nice caramel malt aroma, with notes of dried fruits, raisins, prunes and light ginger. In mouth, a light sweet pleasing fruity malt, with molasses, sweet chocolate, and light alcohol finsih. Medium bodied. Bierophollie import. BB June 2006.

Bottled. Dark ruby red colour, huge beige creamy head. Aroma is roasted coffee, toffee, caramel, slightly bready and alcoholic. Flavour is toffee, alcohol, chocolate some raisins and plum. Roasted malts and coffee come in as it gets warmer, as does the alcohol. Creamy palate, a bit empty in the finish and aftertaste, but wellworth the money!

Pours a deep, chunky brown into a trappist glass. Substantial conglomerate head keeps it’s own. Date, fig and sour dried fruit notes. Medium- to full-bodied. Slightly sweet with a bitter, rotting fruit finish. Would have rated higher until the finish...

Bottled 33 cl (BB 01/2007)
Dark ruby red, big creamy brown head. Grassy hoppy, a bit roasted and chocolaty nose. Grassy hoppy, quite medium-bodied, roasted with notes of candi sugar. Quite biting alcohol kick here with long bitterish aftertaste. Background flavor is somehow similar to many Dutch ales. Interesting characterful strong ale.
