Barleywine-Style Ale Brewed with Date Sugar and Granite
We've teamed up with our great friends at TAPS Brewery out of Brea for this beer and we made one of our most complicated beers to date. An amalgamation of a barley wine with a traditional stein beer, this strong, brown ale has an extra level of caramel complexity brought on by our use of granite rocks that were heated to 900º and added to the wort along with a generous addition of date sugar for added gravity. A Stein's Throw is rich with fruity esters and toffee richness, but finishes dry after being fermented with proprietary yeast strains from both The Bruery and TAPS

75 cl bottle @ Timo A, no BBE info
Aroma is sweetish with berries and vanilla. Flavour has lots of berries typical to Danish ales, caramel and alcohol. Leathery palate. Too much berries here and also the alcohol disturbs a bit.

Bottle at RBWG 2013. Pours clear russet with a soft, beige foam head. Ripe fruits in the nose, some apple and caramel, hints of tang. Big sweet flavor, ripe berries, toffee, sugary bread. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Sticky sweet finish, more sugary ripe fruit, pear and apple. Very sweet and one-dimensional.

Bottle, 75cl. An almost clear one, amber in color and with a small, firm off-white head. The aroma has a good dash of caramel, tending towards butterscotch. Quite fruity. Pleasant in a strange way. The flavor too is on the caramel side, with nice addition of fruityness. Some bitterness chimes in. A solid dose of raisins too. Full body, slightly warming, with a nice carbonation level. Caramel and raisins in the end. A pleasant and more-ish beer. 130215
