Petrus Aged Pale is a 100% foeder beer, aged for 24 months in our oak foeders. It has been the reference for sour beers for years. Moreover, ever since the establishment of the brewery, this beer has been used to blend with other beers to give them fresh, slightly sour flavours and aromas.

330ml bottle from Vinmonopolet Tromsdalen. Close to clear golden body, one finger-thick, white head. Fragile lacing. Ripe tart lemon nose. The flavour character is dominated by lemony tartness with a touch of oak. Tart yeasty fruitiness to the ending. Refreshing cleanser (Tromsø 21.03.2015).

Best before is written 11/12/16 on bottom of back label. Pours a clean golden colour with a soapy white head, decent retention and bubbly lacing. Nice sour nose giving notes of vinegar and sweet white grapes. The sourness is most of the flavours, but a little chemical plastic and metal kind of ruin the fun in the finish. Grain lingers. Alcohol is well-hidden in the mouthfeel. Just wish the taste would be better balanced.

Bottle from the LCBO. Hazy pale gold with a small white head. Prominent funk with banana, lemon and green apple. Tart and woody all the way through with a light underlying seetness. Medium sticky mouth with prickly carbonation. Excellent.

Sour geuze-like nose. Slightly hazy pale amber colour, a lot small bubbles, small frothy off-white head, diminishes slowly to a thick layer that stays, good lacing. Aroma geuze, vinegar, wood, manure. Rather mild medium sour en light sweet taste, unripe gooseberry. Medium body, sticky texture, average carbonation, finish fresh sweet and sour, hint of bitterness, bit wood, very good, great beer.

0,33L bottle, BB 08.05.16. Pours clear golden with off-white head. The head stays. Aroma is sour, wood, malt, fruits, apples. Flavor is wood, sour, fruits. It is very nicely balanced. Alcohol is well covered. Overall: great brew, reminds Rodenbach Grand Cru

This is my first sour ale, so I can’t comment on the style. Pours a dark straw-color from the bottle with a thin white head. Sour but balanced, makes me want to try more of the style to see where this stands. My gut tells me this is a strong representative.
