First brewed in 2008 at our original brewery in downtown Kalamazoo, Oarsman Ale grew out of our desire to explore the tradition of session beers and to create a unique, flavorful experience for everyone, no matter what the occasion.
Tart and refreshing, this sessionable, bright Wheat Ale exudes citrus and lemony aromas from Cascade hops and trades sour intensity for finesse. A perfect companion for any occasion, Oarsman Ale is a beer based in tradition, but with that distinctive Bell’s twist.
A perfect beer to compliment any menu.

Part of a sampler at Jet Rock at PHL terminal B. Hazy light yellow with retained, pure white head. Wheaty malt, and a lemon scent and taste in the background. Very thin mouthfeel.

Appearance: Packaged 27/3-2015. Hazy yellow, fizzy white head.
Aroma: Sour fruit, more tart than sour, maybe.
Taste: Sour/Tart fruit, not much else. Actually a bit watery. Sorry, (still) not my thingamabob.
Bought: Total Wine (Sterling), 355 ml, $1.99
Info: 14/9-2015

Bottle. Hazy orange with a modest white head. Aroma of apples, damp hay/ wheaty funk, old lemons. After that the taste is a bit of a let down. There’s little sourness and it’s all a lot less funky than the aroma leads you to expect. What sourness there is is lemony and upfront. Wheat and lemon, dry finish. Pretty refreshing but not very involving.

Pours yellowish with a small white head. Aroma of tartish fruits, citrus, lemon and grass. Taste is crisp, doughy, lemony and slightly tartish. Finish is smooth, slightly tart, doughy and citrusy. Not very good.

35,5 cl bottle @ hotel room, San Diego. Aroma has bush leaves and some yeast. Flavour is tart with citron, some malty notes and hints of bush leaves. Somewhat watery and rather bland for a berliner. Refreshing anyway.

Blonde, light haziness. Aroma is lightly yeasty, seems wheaty. Somewhat toasty wheaty with a fairly clean lacto.

From a 355ml bottle on 6//2015. Pours a slightly cloudy pale yellow/straw with a medium white head which disappears quickly. Has a slightly herbal aroma, with a hint of tart citrus. In the mouth. there’s a moderate tart, sour lemon against a mild wheat background. Light bodied with lively carbonation. Fairly uninspiring.

Draft 6 oz pour at the imperial bottle shop event. Pours a clear pale yellow with a lasting bubbly head. Soft grainy aroma. Low tartness to it, though it’s definitely there. Light apple, fruit. Sweet, tasty.
