First brewed in 2008 at our original brewery in downtown Kalamazoo, Oarsman Ale grew out of our desire to explore the tradition of session beers and to create a unique, flavorful experience for everyone, no matter what the occasion.
Tart and refreshing, this sessionable, bright Wheat Ale exudes citrus and lemony aromas from Cascade hops and trades sour intensity for finesse. A perfect companion for any occasion, Oarsman Ale is a beer based in tradition, but with that distinctive Bell’s twist.
A perfect beer to compliment any menu.

This ale poured a light blonde colour with a minimal, bright white head. Scents include oatmeal, dough, light lemon citrus and tuna. First swig was quite smooth but slightly watery. Flavours of light lemon cough drops and even lighter malt.

Bottle from Total Wines. Slightly hazy gold in colour, with a thin, white, head. Decent, sour, fruitiness, a thin body and moderately tart finish. Fine.

Drought. Rich. Yellow with creamy off-white head, citrus flavor, high carbonation, slightly sour taste with citrus peel flavor, abrupt finish. Very nice combination of a sour and weisse.

Bottle split at JF’s, cheers Jim, 20/08/14. Lightly hazed golden orange with moderate off white spotting. Nose is citric peel, light vegetal notes, citric dankened straw, lemon rind. Taste comprises citric sherbet, lemon rind, hay, floral notes. Medium bodied, fine carbonaiton, citric sherbets in the close. Pretty low end ’Linner, had expected more from Bells, hardly detected any acidity in this one, no crisp refreshing close. Drinkable but ulimtately a miss!

Bottle sample at a tasting at Beer Market Jaffa. Thanks zvikar. Hazy yellow with a white head. Pleasant mild lactic aroma with some fruitiness. Sourish flavor, wheaty, with yogurt and a spicy hint. Light-bodied. Mild and refreshing.

Fresh bottles from 2012-onwards
Rather fizzy white head tops a pale straw-golden body. Light haziness to it. Looks like a b-weisse.
Lactic acid is soft and aromatic in the nose, with lemon, light sponge cake and nuttiness from the wheat. Not the most exotic or complex aroma, but nor is there any flaw or alcohol here and what’s there is quite enjoyable.
Straightforward berliner in the mouth, with a moderate to moderately-low amount of acidity relative to style. Tons of lemon, light white pepper and some very dry, nutty wheat. Extremely light, very sessionable body with lightly fizzy carbonation. My only complaint was some tannic astringency from the grain and perhaps a touch of DMS. Otherwise, really nice summer drinker.

God duft av sitron og hvete. Dunkel gul farge. Tyn hinne av skum, noe mer langs kant. Frisk syrlig smak av sitron som varer.
