A blend of the first two batches of beer we brewed at Alesong, our Imperial milk stout was matured in bourbon barrels to add velvety layers of vanilla, coconut, and bourbon to the sweet and chocolatey malt flavors of the base stout. Read the full backstory here.

Barrels: Freshly emptied Heaven Hill Bourbon Barrels
Food pairings: Cocoa braised lamb shoulder, foie gras, aged parmesan, flourless chocolate cake with cherries

Still drinking solid, side by side with the 2019, thinner but plenty of bourbon and chocolate notes left. More barrel and less chocolate.

Bottle, 500 ml, shared with Max, Zec, Tomislav and Boris. Dark brown with beige head. Caramel, milk chocolate, bourbon, nutty, wood, sweet, medium bodied. Warming.

Bottle shared with the KL tasting crew. Poured a clear dark brown colour with little life. The aroma is roasty malt, chocolate, vanilla lactose. The flavour is moderate sweet, with a silky smooth, rich, oily, vanilla lactose palate. Medium to full bodied with flat carbonation.

Draft @ Sour Sunday 2017, Berkeley, CA. Pours a black color with a small tan head. Has a roasted malty chocolate licorice woody bourbon aroma. Roasted malty licorice, chocolate woody bourbon vanilla flavor. Has a roasted malty woody bourbon vanilla chocolate and licorice finish.

Bottle. Pours opaque black with a large creamy brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves great residual and lacing. Aroma is roasty cocoa bourbon, vanilla, hints of marshmallow. Flavor is light plus sweet, light plus bitter, bourbon and cocoa malts in perfect balance, hints of vanilla and toasted coconut. Full body, creamy mouthfeel. Bourbon comes on a bit after drinking, eventually a bit to forward, but overall a pretty damn good BA RIS here.
