Adam is a recreation of a historic beerstyle. Originally made in Dortmunder, Germany, it was the first beer I produced when I opened Hair of the Dog. Rich in flavor, Adam is best served as a dessert beer. It is great with chocolate or cigars, or just a warm fire and good company.

Flaska från trade. Vintage 2013.

Bottle, from City Hops. Pours cloudy reddish dark brown with large spongy tan head, woodsy caramel malt and sweet spirit aroma, low carbonation, initially bitter woodsy caramel malt taste with alcohol undertones, nutmeg, sweet molasses, somewhat thick body, long finish. Quite complex flavor profile as described by others.

Bottle from Whole Foods Portland. My last bottle from Portland and I am not dissapointed at all. This is a great and complex beer. Reminds me a bit of mein avientus. Rich, deep, slight spice. Special.

12 oz. bottle, shared with Michael. Pours black, with a medium, bubbly, khaki head. The aroma is butter toffee, pipe tobacco, peat, rye, chalk, and raw cocoa. Sweet at first, with a nice, dry, bitter finish. Medium to heavy body, with a chalky, dry mouthfeel. This is a nicely done, dry, malty, and complex beer. Excellent.

From Oct 2005

Batch 61

Poured into the glass(after I lost some on initial opening) with a huge off-white head, this is some very dark stuff, bordering on black.

The smell has some fruit notes to it but the dominating aroma I get reminds me of antiseptic.

The taste is a real hodgepodge of not so good flavours that is dominated by the antiseptic that I mentioned in the smell followed closely by a bitter-sour attack that leaves my taste buds in total disarray.

This one is not for me.
