Sane or senseless? Harmless or harmful? Sometimes it takes awhile to get to know a stranger. Initial impressions are not always reality, so you must delve deeper. Beyond the initial floral hop aromas, malt sweetness is revealed, yet with a spicy undertone that exposes a very rye sense of humor. Take your time to get to know the Stranger. It’s strangely satisfying.

Bottled. Clear deep golden color, medium frothy off-white head. Aroma of grainy malt, hint of caramel. Flowery hops, bit floral, earthy, hint of pine. Medium bitter taste. Hmm, not the best or maybe not the freshest example I’ve had.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, best before 6/27/2013. Pours hazy golden amber color with a 2 finger dense and fluffy white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass. Aromas of grapefruit, orange zest, floral, pine, grass, spicy rye, caramel, bread, and toast. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of malt and hop notes with decent strength; very unique aromas. Taste of grapefruit, orange zest, lemon zest, floral, pine, grass, caramel, light rye spiciness, bread, and toast. Light floral bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of citrus, floral, pine, caramel, light rye, bread, and toast on the finish for a bit. Good complexity of hop and malt flavors; with very balanced hop/malt flavors and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a fairly creamy and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with no warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a nice pale ale. Good balance and complexity of hop and malt flavors; and very smooth to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

On tap at The Mule. Pours a clear gold with a white head that lasts throughout the beer and laces. Aroma is pretty mild with grass hops, a touch of flora and backing light grains. Flavor has slightly bitter grass up front that mellow into a bread finish with a hint of flora.

Bottle, Stirchley Wines, Birmingham. Clear orange pour with a small, white head. Nose and flavour of fragrant hop and sweet malts. A little spice and citrus also present. Light body and a dryish finish. Drinkable but ultimately forgettable.

355 ml. bottle shared with a number of people. I love the cover art on this one, wonderful, makes me think of “The Prisoner”. Very pale, clear orange with little white head. Light citrus notes in the nose, light sweetness and fruitiness, light sweeter yeast, grass, very light fruits and oranges. Taste is sweeter citrus hops, touch of sweeter marmalade, touch toffee, hint white sugar, sweet fruity oranges, caramel. Med, touch malty, tad flatter. Far more enjoyable than suggested by the ratings.
