The Rothaus Pils Tannenzäpfle has existed since 1956—so for almost 60 years. Its unusual name is embodied on the labels of the 0.33 l bottles. The original Tannenzäpfle labels depicted spruce branches accompanied by pinecones. These pinecones are what gave this beer its name. But there’s one other characteristic that makes the Tannenzäpfle special; it was the first Rothaus beer to emerge with a label depicting “Biergit”, the Black Forest girl holding two glasses of beer. Today, “Biergit” is the defining symbol for all beers made by the Rothaus Brewery.

Bottle. B-W brewery no.6 Pours clear gold with thin white head. Malty on nose with bit of herbs. Low to medium bitterness. Bit sweetish. Bit of herbal feel. Quite good.

Bottle. Pours golden with medium frothy white head leaving spotty lacing. The aroma is grass, straw, grain. Light body, grass, earth, grain, nice crisp finish, very good.

0.33 l bottle - gift from a colleague; many thanks, Janice! clear golden colour, medium sized dense white head; aroma of grainy, fresh cut grassy, hay, herbal, slight citrusy and green vegetable notes; taste of grainy-bread crusty, herbal hoppy and slight metallic notes; good plisener!

Farblich zeigt sich ein pilstypisches klares hellgelb. Die weiße grobporige Schaumkrone gibt sich stabil und sehr gut haltbar. Die Nase füllt sich mit frischen, etwas grasig bis heuigen und süßlich-fruchtigen Duftaromen. Den Start macht ein schlanker, aber nicht zu dünn wirkender, spritziger Antrunk. Im Mittelteil wird man von einem verhältnismäßig vollmundigen Körper überrascht. Einer deutlichen Rezenz stellen sich deutliche Malznoten und eine kräftige, sanftherbe Hopfenaromatik entgegen. Mit dieser kräftigen Aromatik rechnet man möglicherweise gar nicht, wenn man an ein Pils denkt. Aber genau das macht dieses Tannenzäpfle so interessant und fast außergewöhnlich. Für Nichtpilstrinker wäre es wohl eine echte Überraschung - und zwar im positivem Sinne. Es lässt sich relativ leicht trinken und der volle Charakter überzeugt. Im Abgang bleibt noch ein wenig Platz für die angenehme fruchtig-süße Malzaromatik. Nach etwa 20 Sekunden übernimmt aber eine deutliche Hopfenherbe, die das Profil dieses Bieres schön abschließt. Ein Bier ohne Fehler, absolut rund, überraschend aromatisch und sehr gut trinkbar - wahrscheinlich eines der besten seines Stils.

Bottle from Appel Getränkemarkt Moosburg and consumed at home Sunday 24th April 2021 about to start listening to the new album by The Weather Station - Ignorance we have a 'Mousakka for for tea, we are both cooking our own chillies. Pours straw coloured with a white head, excellent clarity, soft carbonation, crisp, dry finish, fruity this is a great thirst quencher.
