The Rothaus Pils Tannenzäpfle has existed since 1956—so for almost 60 years. Its unusual name is embodied on the labels of the 0.33 l bottles. The original Tannenzäpfle labels depicted spruce branches accompanied by pinecones. These pinecones are what gave this beer its name. But there’s one other characteristic that makes the Tannenzäpfle special; it was the first Rothaus beer to emerge with a label depicting “Biergit”, the Black Forest girl holding two glasses of beer. Today, “Biergit” is the defining symbol for all beers made by the Rothaus Brewery.

Bottle, just Pils (no Tannen Zapfle). Pours a clear pale golden colour and a small white head with some lacing. Aroma's are malty sweet, fruity and grassy hops. Retronasal follow this. Flavour is light moderate malty sweet with light bitterness. Light bodied. Smooth mouthfeel. Light bitter finish. Nice crisp pils.

Bottle from The Curious Hop, Otley. Pours a clear light golden colour with a medium sized throthy white head. Aromas of grains, hay, straw, grass and bread. Taste is crisp with a grassy hop bitterness on the finish. Light to medium with fair amount of carbonation on the palate. Overall a good clean crisp and fresh Pils. Good

Tight white head stayed on a highly carbonated pale gold body. Pale malt & grain aroma. Medium bodied, soft on the tongue with a well carbonated back & cloying aft. Bitter, grain, malt, cereal & biscuit tastes. Standard.

Bottle at home, from Honest Brew, 11/04/20. Clear golden, carbonation evident, topped with a solid white cap. Nose is pale malts, grass, bread dough, toasted grains. Taste comprises pale malts, cereals, faint lemon zip, breads, light sugars. Medium bodied, spritzy carbonation, semi drying close. Decent refreshing pils.
