Bottle from Best One convenience store, Brackley Road, Bedford. Dark amber/brown, translucent with a cream coloured head. Pumpernickel bread, slightly burned samphire, charred resinous notes in the aroma. Taste is somewhat sweet but kept in check by the heaviness of the black malt. The juicy bitterness of the hops give an almost astringent finish, with caramel, black cherry and tar in the aftertaste. A bit much of a muchness but a lovely beer, maybe especially when tempered with food.
