Imperial Porter using a blend of 7 different malts.
In terms of hops, we keep the IBUs modest at 35 and hopped the beer entirely with First Gold.
And of course, with Lost Abbey & BrewDog both obsessed with barrel ageing, this collaboration just had to be aged in oak.
We settled on some rum casks for the Imperial Porter, making it the first time either of the respective brewers have aged a beer in rum barrels.

Bottle split at the last minute CBJ Tasting (big thanks Marcin for hosting), thanks to Kenny for this one, 13/07/23. Extremely dark mahogany brown with a decent beige cap that thins to edgeing. Nose is earthy fruit rinds, umami, molasses, cocoa dusting, light oxidisation setting in. Taste comprises dried fruit rinds, oak, chocolate, light spice, dates, brown bread, soy nip, molasses. Medium plus bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Not bad for the age.

330ml bottle from 2011, sampled Oct 2016. Pours dark brown towards black with virtually no head. Aroma: lots of dried fruits, vinous, caramel, rum, booze, vanilla, light peat, liquorice.Taste: raisins, plums, cola hints, lots of oak, rum, vanilla, liquorice, charcoal, ash. Surprisingly thin body with very low carbonation. Creeping level of oxidisation here but still a fine beer.

(Bottle) Dark brown colour with brief, foamy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with dark chocolate, wood, black rye bread, liquorice, rum, nuts and raisins. Malty, roasted taste with notes of raisins, wood, dark chocolate, black rye bread, liquorice, rum, nuts, hints of tropical fruit, burnt sugar and a balanced roasty bitterness in the finish. Almost full body, with a certain sweetness. Tasty and fairly well balanced for its strength, with a rich oak aged rum character. Very nice.

Bottled 05-12-11. And another massive wishlist tick. Still quite good, considering its age, but does appear to have flattened a bit. Still great, though. Smooth, rummy, lots of raisins and fairly sweet. Thanks a lot, Marco! Absolute pleasure.
