750ml bottle-pours an off white bubbly head and murky orange/amber color. Aroma is medium malt-caramel/molasses/brown sugar, pine hops. Taste is medium malt-caramel/molasses/brown sugar, pine/resin hops and some lemon, some alcohol. Nice sipping. Thanks bitterbill & jwc215 for trading this.

2005 vintage from Degarth, thanks buddy. Pours a slightly hazy dull copper, brown orange with thin white head. The aroma is full with a load up front of citrus hop flavor such as over ripe orange wedges and cantaloupe mixed with an alcohol note. There is also a more classic barleywine nose of dark fruit hidden behind the ripe citrus and melon along with a faint undertone of caramel. I’m drinking this in the 60F range. The flavors start off smooth and seemingly neutral. Then some mild sweet caramel malt notes start things going along with blunted citrus hop flavor and glimpses of hop bitterness. As the taste progresses the hop component becomes both hard orange candy like as well as over ripe oranges. Toward the finish the malts creep up and add some balanced to the citrus with caramel, toffee and a hint of bread. The alcohol flavor becomes noticeable as the taste ends. I get grapefruit hop bitterness, sweet orange hard candy and mild malt sweetness into the after taste.

Bottle courtesy of Beerandblues2: Poured a dark hazy amber color ale with a nice medium foamy head with average retention and good lacing. Aroma is quite hoppy with some citrus notes but is well balance with some sweet malt. Taste is less hoppy then the aroma was suggesting with a good presence of sweet malt. Light presence of dry fruits such as figs and prunes could be accentuated in a bit more. Body was above average with some medium carbonation and no alcohol was discernable. Overall, I thought this was a good barleywine tending more toward the English style then the American overly hoppy style.

(Bottle 65 cl) Pours a hazy amber with a small, off-white head. Soft caramel aroma. Very full body and sweet with distinct caramel and a very aromatic hopping. A very smooth and pleasant Barley Wine. 211006

Vintage 2005. A hazy amber beer with a thin orange head. The aroma is sweet hoppy - Cascade giving it notes of grapefruit, but also with strong notes of alcohol and caramel. The flavor is sweet malty with lots of caramel notes, but also a strong alcohol note, which lends the beer a metallic tinge. Toward the end the alcohol leaves a slight burn on the tongue and in the top of the throat.

2005 bottle thanks to B&B2. Poured into small Koningshoeven goblet glass. I could smell creaminess as I poured it, interesting. Pours very dark amber with no head and barely some lacing. Aroma is strong - a very subdued and creamy plum raison BW aroma. Very nice and much lower on the alcohol than expected. Taste is sweet syrupy fruits and again raison/plum BW. Very subdued for somethign this strong. Medium body but very smooth and really no sense of alcohol. Very low on bitterness. A very nice example, I will age a few of these.
