Fear and Trembling was Hill Farmstead’s first collaboration – a Baltic Porter brewed with malt that was hand-smoked over maple wood by our Danish friend, and former colleague, Anders Kissmeyer. This version was brewed with malts smoked onsite with a blend of native woods, fermented with lager yeast, and conditioned in stainless. As a student of philosophy and former resident of Copenhagen, it is fitting that our brewer named our first collaboration after Denmark’s great thinker: Søren Kierkegaard. All three contemplated absurdity, faith, and salvation while wandering the shores of the Baltic Sea…

Bottled 500ml. -from the brewery shop, shared with Marko & Hrabren. Pitch black coloured, medium sized beige head, roasty nose with whiff of smoke. Roasted malt, light chocolate, light smoke, notes of caramel and touch of wood with mild alcohol presence. Sweet and quite dry finish. Nice one.

0.5 l bottle thanks to Ogi who brought it from the USA, shared with Marko and him. Dark brown, small beige head. Aroma is moderate smoked wood, charred wood, roasty malts, soft touch of smoked sausage. Soft notes of smokey and plastic phenols. A mild hint of alcohol, dark fruit, caramel and cardboard. Smooth, medium body, light creamy, quite sweet. Brown bread, caramel, dried fruit, dried berries at first, smoked cheese and roasted malt with a hint of charred wood later. Soft texture and carbonation, finishes sweet and lightly astringent with a smokey burnt aftertaste.

500ml bottle, huge thanks Ogi for bringing it from the States and sharing it with Hrabren and me! Pitch black body, tan, thick small head, good retention. Soft, nicely smoky, bit woody, mildly nutty, caramelly, and tannic-roasty aroma. Smooth roasty taste, roasted walnuts and hazelnuts, some smoke, creamy caramelly background, avoids being sweet. Full enough to temper all the potentially rough beers. Some green tea herbal hop notes in the finish, not standing out, solid counterpoint to the malty and slightly smoky notes. This is class, just class. It doesn't really thrill, but is there something wrong with it? Not really, no. Great job!

Tap at Tørst. Darkest brown color with beige head. Aroma is chocolate, roast, smoke, ash, good balance.Taste is classic Baltic Porter temptingness, and there's the smoke, great interplay, good drinkability. Silky mouthfeel, high carbonation. Very tasty!

Thnx to Koen ! Pours black, small tanned head. Smell is bit smokey, roasty. Taste is tad sweet, lightly smoked, roasty. Decent body. Nice .
