Tasted in bottle version. Typical bitter with loose, not very stable, off-white head and a pale orange blond colour (’old gold’), clear with very little fizz. Aroma reveals a cooked corn-like quality (I strongly suspect pasteurization) along with hints of biscuit, apple peel, toasted bread, grass, white cabbage and walnuts. Round, slick palate with restrained, dry fruitiness (dried apricot) and medium carbonation; toasted and nutty malts leading to a dryish finish with medium long, herbal hop bitterishness. Straightforward and thirst-quenching but unremarkable. I assume this is a lot better from tap, as usual for an English bitter...

Small white head. Clear yellow body. Light wet straw and earth aroma with gooseberry notes. Dry-sweet papery resiny linoleum taste with earthy notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft mouthfeel. Dryish fruity papery aftertaste with resiny notes. Long, lingering resiny finish. It’s ok, but too papery. (0.5l bottle, from Clarke’s, Whitby.)
