Bottle from the Bier Koning, Amsterdam. Poured a deep mahogany with a frothy tan head. The aroma is grassy hop. The flavour is medium bitter with a spicy pepper hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Loved the hop combo here. A very hoppy and refreshing beer. One of the best IPAs I’ve had from The Netherlands.

25/I/14 - 33cl bottle @ Nieuwjaarsreceptie Gentse Biervereniging - BBE: 2015 (2014-121) Thanks to Jan VDB for sharing the bottle!!
Dark brown to black beer, irregular beige head, unstable, bit adhesive. Aroma: mocha, coffee, dark chocolate, some chlorine, dried fruits, banana peel. MF: ok carbon, medium to full body. Taste: mocha, caramel, some coffee, sweet touch, bitter hops. Aftertaste: coffee, hops, some citrus, chlorine touch, very bitter ending. Is it a black IPA? I'd rather say a very hoppy stout. Either way, it's a really nice beer!

Tap @ Winterbierfestival Gouda: Very dark with fluffy brown head. Burn toast, dark chocolate, herbal and vegetal notes, slight citrus. Dry and bitter with light sweet touch. Interesting, but not great imho. Update : bottle. Very dry but seems a bit more complex than the tap version. Slight liquorice and alcohol.

Draft. Pours near black with a thick beige head. Aroma has big roast, chocolate, coffee and some grassy hops. Flavor is moderate sweet and heavy bitter. Medium to full bodied with soft carbonation. Closer to a RIS than a black IPA.

Tap @ Kafe Belgie, medium sample. Pitch black color, medium creamy brown head. Aroma of grassy and citrussy hop mixed with loads of dark roast and coffee. Quite bitter in taste. Creamy body. Lots of roast. Balance goes a bit more towards a hoppy stout than a black IPA, but it’s on the edge. I prefer it the other way around, but the balance of a black IPA is one of the toughest things to get right. One way or another: it’s a damn tasty brew!
