My IPA rating # 100! Somewhat suitable that this beer comes from one of my favorite breweries, Nøgne Ø. Hazy, dark amber colour with a thin, tan head. Does not look pale to me. Nor Indian. Fruity aroma with oranges/tangerines, citrus hops, caramel and chocolate malts and exotic spices. A herbal-smoked note, the rye. Surely a complex aroma. Taste is bitter. Medium to full body, creamy texture and an average carbonation. Finishes bitter and dry with citrus fruits, caramel malts and herbal/spicy notes. Very complex beer with surprising flavours.

Bottle from Barley Wine, Copenhagen - Hazy dark amber/brown pour with small off white head. Dark caramel malts, toffee, slightly nutty, rye, spicy orange/tangerine hops, herbal nuances throughout. Good stuff.

A dark amber brown ipa with a thick mocha head. In aroma, grassy and nutty malt with grassy hops, wild grass, nice. In mouth, a nice roasted coffee malt with grassy character, wild herbs, citrus pulp, orange peel, and bitter burned notes, burned toasts, OK. Shared with GRM and Boutip. Merci Sylvain.

Bottle: Poured a hazy burgundy color ale with a medium size foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of spicy rye notes with some caramel malt, some spices and light citrus hoppy notes. Taste is a kitchen sink type mix of spicy rye notes with some caramel malt and some citrus hops notes. The tangerine juice was hard to detect and didn’t play an important role. Body was full with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. There is a lot going on with this beer and probably too much at the end of the day for my taste buds.

Bottle - Citrus fruit flavors abound with grapefruit, orange and a sweet perfume that could be the tangerine. Muddy orange brown with a thick brownish head. Immediate grapefruit with a candy sweetness and punch of orange peel bitterness. Finishes very clean. A bit of booze in the taste along with a earthy quality (I assume that is the rye). I like when breweries get inventive, but for everything they did, I just don’t get anything special.

Bouteille 500ml (batch 847), courtoisie de Félix-Antoine. De couleur brune foncée et voilée. Nez de houblon citrique, herbeux, fruité (agrumes sucrées, notes de fruits tropicaux) aux petites notes florales et résineuses, de caramel sucré et légèrement rôti avec des notes épicées (poivre doux). Moyennement ronde en bouche avec un pétillement moyen-doux ainsi qu’une texture légèrement crémeuse et aux notes huileuses. Goût moyennement amer de houblon citrique, fruité (agrumes, très léger d’abricots), légèrement herbeux et floral (une amertume présente toute la gorgée) accompagné de traces de pain grillé lors de l’entrée en bouche auquel se rajoute un goût de caramel, léger-moyen de malt rôti avec des notes de biscuits et d’épices (poivre doux) puis en finale l’amertume de houblon s’intensifie légèrement en se faisant légèrement asséchante, plus herbeuse, légèrement plus florale et aux notes résineuses tout en étant appuyée par des traces d’alcool. Post-goût long et légèrement sec, moyen-amer de houblon herbeux, moyennement citrique, légèrement floral avec des petites notes résineuses et terreuses ainsi qu’avec un goût fruité (agrumes et zeste), un très léger goût rôti et des petites traces d’épices (poivrées).

From a 500ml bottle on 23/3/2013 (batch number 847, BB 1/8/14). Pours a curious, very cloudy dark brown with a medium head (looks a bit like a Belgian brune). Has a lopely fruity, hoppy nose, with lots of citrus and some pine, and even a little chocolate. There’s a lot going on when it hits the mouth, starting out with some nutty and light caramel malt. This is accompanied by lots of sweet citrus fruit (orange and the advertised tangerine are particularly prevalent), tea, and some distinct roasty notes. There is some strong piney hops at the back which keep the sweet citrus nicely in check. It has some Black IPA about it, but the fruitiness still dominates. This is a smashingly good, unusual IPA with lots of complexity and great balance. Well done Nogne!
