Pirate bomb is our beer Prairie Bomb! aged in rum casks. The flavor from the casks helps impart more vanilla and coconut flavors to the beer while helping to add more body and smoothness to the already explosive and expressive flavors of Bomb!

Bottle @ Appellation Comely Bank tasting thanks to BenH. Appearance - close to opaque black, perhaps with some orange chinks. Nose - deep chocolate, booze and spice. Then gently comes a fruity chilli note. Not spicy, just warming. Taste - more booze and chocolate followed by the fruity chilli again, just adding enough warmth to make it interesting. Palate - full bodied with a big creamy and boozy texture and a sweet, boozy but balanced finish. Overall - very enjoyable. Thanks Ben!

(355ml bottle @ VilleValla Pub, Linköping, Dec 4, 2014) Pours pitch black with a tiny tan head that dissipates rapidly without lace. Aroma of roasted cacao, dark chocolate, strong black coffee, vanilla bean, lightly spiced woody dark rum/coconut character is surprisingly faint, no hint of chili on nose. On the palate, pretty dry and roasty, semisweet dark chocolate, espresso, vanilla bean, lightly woody, earthy, bit of spice/rum quality but not much. Lightly sweet dark malts dissipate towards the finish giving way to moderate roast, earth, wood, a slightly spicy but not really hot pepper character and coffee grounds/cacao beans. Fairly full but oily body with moderate carb. This is a really good stout, no doubt about it. The rum barrel seemed surprisingly restrained in this beer and I don’t know if that’s a plus or minus. It is a nicely balanced impy stout but when consumed next to Fred’s Blend the barrels in the latter contributed substantially more balance and complexity. Not a knock against the Pirate, to be fair!

Bottle. Opaque black liquid with small tan head. Aroma of chili, rum, raisins, dried fruit, licorice, bitter chocolate and light sweet alcohol. Taste is medium sweet and light to medium bitter with notes of dried fruit, raw sugar, light chili and bitter chocolate. Full bodied with low to medium carbonation. Really good, but I might prefer the original bomb.

12 oz bottle poured into a snifter. Non-waxed bottle with October stamped on the bottle, most likely 2014. 14% ABV per the label. Black with half a finger of tan head. Aromas of big dark chocolate and fudge, burnt sugar, light rum, roasted coffee. Tastes of dark chocolate, roasted coffee, light rum, caramel. Full body with a dry finish. Good and the alcohol is well masked, but I think it could use a bit more barrel character.

Bottle shared by kermis @ Kermis’ birthday party. Opaque pitch black color, dark brown head. Aroma is huge, huge espresso and roast, roasted malts, liquor, dark chocolate, cocoa. Taste malts, roasted malts, some peppers, huge espresso and huge roast again, rhum, wood, dark chocolate and cocoa are all over this beer as well and it’s very bitter but the chocolate, whilst bitter itself, compensates that somehow. Hard to put into words but this beer is incredibly intense. The peppers aren’t my thing and I think without them I would have rated this beer 4.5+ for sure, but even with them it is fantastic. Oily texture, full body, suitable carbonation. Intense and lovely. Huge thanks Chris!
