Pirate bomb is our beer Prairie Bomb! aged in rum casks. The flavor from the casks helps impart more vanilla and coconut flavors to the beer while helping to add more body and smoothness to the already explosive and expressive flavors of Bomb!

No wax. New batch that came in to local stores on 11/1. The beer is black with a very small light brown head. Just a coating of fine bubbles after a minute. The aroma has a nice strong stout character, tending towards fudgey chocolate. Mild chili note. Big on vanilla, though less than I’ve found in various batches of the base beer. Some sugary rum on top of it. Not much oak. Mild dark roast fruitiness. Sweet, spicy and boozy in the taste. The booze is nice and warming. The spice interacts with it a bit oddly, but it’s a pleasant oddness, like a very spicy, chocolatey rum. Very tasty stuff. It seems a bit less sweet than the base version, but it’s big and fudgey and spicy and rummy and full of vanilla. Tasty stuff. Mouth-coating but not over the top or terribly sticky. Very good.

Bottle with green wax top thanks to Phatdog1, much thanks Craig. Aroma crazy, vanilla, wet oak, rum, raisin and some booze. No head in this stout. Translucent oily film sitting on top the brew.
Flavors is just as lush as the aroma. Burnt chocolate, vanilla beans upfront with a solid base stout of roasted malt. The finish is rum soaked raisins, without any heat from the chili pepper. The ABV is nonexistent without any alcohol burn after the sip. The body is full without being overly sweet or overwhelming in any form. Complexity of flavor is pretty unreal!

Pitch black, sticky molasses body. Nose is spicy as all get-up with every adjunct imaginable just a cobb salad of beer aroma. Creamy thick mouthfeel. Vanilla and coffee I get the most of. Spice is very minimal compared to the taste. Toffee and caramel and butterscotch taste. Lots of grandma’s candies with vanilla shake.

28/III/14 - 12Fl. Oz. bottle @ De Hopduvel (Gent) - BB: n/a (2014-314) Thanks to Bobochamp for sharing the bottle!
Clear dark brown beer, no head. Aroma: lots of coffee, mocha, burnt caramel, but mainly just coffee. MF: no carbon, full body. Taste: mocha, burnt caramel, bit sweet, little sour, metallic touch, bitte rhops. Aftertaste: coffee grit, some caramel, bitter hops, bit sweet, alcohol burn, more coffee. Could not detect the rum in this one. I guess the basic beer from which they start (the regular "Bomb!") is just too overpowering both in roastedness and in hop bitterness.

I had a one ounce pour at the RateBeer Gallery 2 and refused to rate it. Now I get to try it side by side out of the bottle with regular Bomb! Pours an opaque black with a small tan head, a bit bubbly, dissipates fairly quickly to a ring but whats left leaves nice lacing. Aroma is the definition of a 10 - beautiful mix of rum, cocoa, chocolate, vanilla, roasted malts. Flavor doesn’t quite live up to that promise, but it is rich, decadent, medium sweet and light bitter, chocolate, rum vanilla gives a hint of Christmas. Chili peppers kind of getting lost in the barrel treatment, however. Very light astringency from the oak. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel. Perhaps a bit less complex than the original, but world class nonetheless.

From a bottle at Kyle’s tasting. There is a powerful aroma of green pepper. Flavor has coffee and a little chocolate, and the green pepper is there as well. Lots of sugar I wonder if the chiles ruined this beer.

Sample at First Sunday, brought by heyta. Pours murky brown, with a medium, tan head. The aroma is chocolate, sugar cane, vanilla, and cinnamon. Very sweet, with a lot of savory spice. Thick, syrupy, and smooth. Overall, this is a wonderfully sweet, boozy, and heavy beer.
