Don’t ever call a Roman Lager just another Pilsner beer. Because this mild and pleasant thirst-quencher has a fruity nose. The mildly malty attack transitions into a slightly bitter finish. We have been brewing this beer in our coppers since 1945.

On tap in the Volkscafé Sint-Jakobs, Brugge on 2nd Dec 2015. Do not usually drink Pilsners when in Brugge but as this was new to me I took the plunge. Usual clear golden lager/pilsner look, fading white crown also typical of the style. Leaning towards semi-sweet and malty rather than hop bitter in nature. Could have been one of many similar beers from anywhere in the world: almost odourless and tasteless. Refreshing and clean, but not much to test your scenes. A Mr Average Pils in every way.

06/02/2014 bottle @ De Linde, Melden. Yellow with pearly white head. Aroma is like other Pilsener I had lately : rotten. Taste is luckily better. Grainy, malty, light bitter and some sweetness. Even with the smell and the sweetness, best Pilsener I had in a long time

One of the ’smaller’ pale lagers in Flanders and one of the very first beers I ever tasted (back in 1991 during a visit to the brewery); only tasted from tap. Clear, pale golden blonde with a medium, cream white head. Grainy and lightly malt sweet with a hint of grassy hops, somewhat metallic in the middle, malt sweetness lingering a bit, minerally, light bitterness in the finish. Very ordinary, but credible and in any case less ’chemical’ than e.g. its big competitor Jupiler.

Thanks to the staff @ Bierhandel Willems en Zoon for this beer. Very lightly hazy pale golden with a creamy white head. Nose is lightly sweet grains, some malts, sweet hay and light EU hops. Taste is grainy, sweet grains, some malts, light metal & electricity, light hops, actually some EU hops in the back, touch bitter spices. Grainy, very lightly watery body. This is not an awesome beer per se but within the category this is not bad. (Offered on draft @ Bierhandel Willems en Zoon which is pretty need, they have their own, two-headed tap in the store, 25 cl.)
