The Chimay Gold, which is brewed in the heart of Scourmont Abbey, was for long reserved for the monastic community and its guests and staff. Its refreshing aromas of hops and spice are now yours to try.
Originally this was the refectory beer drunk by the monks and as such it was a water-diluted version of the Red Chimay, but it was given its own recipe in 2006. Initially it was only available in the abbey itself but since 2013 it is generally available. At the nearby Auberge de Poteaupré, it is tapped from the barrel as Chimay Spéciale Poteaupré.

Hazy golden pour, big white head. Crisp Aroma, lemon zest, dry cereals, light stone fruit. Effervescent carb, lively mouth feel. Finish is clean and refreshing, light citrus and stone fruit with some great light malts. Exceptional tble beer, loved it.

Bottiglia. Un arco olfattivo dominato dall'orzo e dallo speziato. L'olfatto viene stimolato in maniera normale e la maniera in cui permane è sufficiente. Il mantello birroso superiore è caratterizzato da una schiuma dalla buona tenuta. La grandezza delle bollicine è a grana medio-fine. La parte liquida si presenta opalescente. Bollicine medio-fini costituiscono la forma del perlage. Il colore è giallo dorato brillante. Il corpo è pieno. L'amaro è di media potenza. La forza gustativa è elevata. La continuità gustativa è buona. Il gusto è piacevole. Le sensazioni boccali finali risultano di pronta beva. Il finale è felpato, pulito e dissetante. Il retrogusto è di decente intensità. Al gusto vengono donati toni di miele, frutta secca, erba, agrumi, spezie e pepe.

Аромат шикарен, немного кориандра. цитруса и пшеницы. Пиво весьма хорошо пенится, мутное, цвет темно желтый. На вкус удивительно напоминает Витбир. Чувствуется пшеница, много дрожжей, цветочные и цитрусовые нотки, а также мед в оттенке. Напиток слегка водянистый. Вкусное пиво, но слегка странно это называют его Бельгийским элем.

330ml bottle. Hazy gold, big white frothy head, lots of visible carbonation, minimal retention. Light fresh aroma of cereal, banana, light spice. Taste is like the aroma, quite cereal like in taste, semi-sweet, fruity banana, nice smooth body and carbonation. Not much in the finish, it doesn't deviate from mid-palate. This is my third Chimay beer and although I find them decent I don't feel they stand out amongst other Belgium beers I've tried.
