American Double IPA

Single Malt and Single Hop Double IPA, brewed with only Australian Galaxy hops and Premium Northwest Pilsner Malt. The Galaxy hops take center stage and are joined by the very intense bitterness typical of this variety of hops.

Flavor
A balanced aroma gives intense passion fruit, light guava, and herbal notes similar to thyme, and hints of exotic citrus. The hop aroma is balanced by light honey notes that are characteristically associate with the malt of a crisp Pilsner. The flavor has an initial rush of tropical fruit and herbal notes that linger intensely. The Galaxy hops take center stage, and after several seconds, the juicy hop notes are joined by the very intense bitterness typical of this Australian variety.

Ingredients
SMaSH Galaxy starts with our glacier-fed water from the Juneau Icefield and our exclusive ale yeast that is a hallmark of the Alaskan style. From there, the ingredient list is short: Australian Galaxy hops and Premium Northwest Pilsner Malt.

22oz bomber pours with a crystal clear pale gold body that supports a dirty white head. The aroma offers up malts, spicy dank garlic like hops, thin grapefruit and the a decent load of pineapple. The taste delivers bitter grapefruit surrounded by a tropical fruity blend of honey dew melon and pineapple. Toward midway it picks up bitter spicy garlic dankness as well as more grapefruit like hop bitterness. Pretty nice IIPA with enough depth and balance to keep things interesting but this doesn’t get to the point of being rich and chewy. Good nonetheless.

Shared 22 oz. bottle. Pours a hazy golden color with a white head. Aroma of tropical fruits and floral notes. Similar taste, with some pine, but has an odd mineral/vitamin presence. Okay.

Pours a hazy, light yellow, with minimal head. Aroma is a bit dank, with lots of grass. Flavor is very dry, with tons of hop bitterness in the front. Almost too bitter. Some citrus, but just a big slap of bitter hops. Could use a touch more balance. Alcohol content is very well-hidden for a double IPA.

22oz bomber. A clean, World Class IIPA. Drinks very mildly for the ABV, the hops are delicate, never syrupy or piny. With a slightly more earthy, pungent feel than Mosaic, but pretty similar. thing going on. Really a great beer, but not as overboard of a hop profile as I had hoped for.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, best before 10/29/2016. Pours slightly hazy pale golden yellow color with a 2 finger dense and rocky white head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big pineapple, peach, mango, tangerine, passion fruit, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, cracker, biscuit, light honey, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of juicy citrus/tropical hops and moderate pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big pineapple, peach, mango, tangerine, passion fruit, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, cracker, biscuit, light honey, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate pine/citrus rind bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of pineapple, peach, mango, tangerine, passion fruit, lemon/orange rind, pine, cracker, biscuit, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of juicy citrus/tropical hops and moderate pale malt flavors; with a nice malt/bitterness balance; and minimal astringent hop flavors lingering after the finish. Moderate dryness from bitterness, that increases through the glass. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately sticky/resinous, and lightly grainy/creamy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this is a great DIPA. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of juicy citrus/tropical hops and moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Bomber from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours bright gold with a white head. Aroma of tropical fruits and citrus. Med body at least. Flavor is tropical fruit, arguably citrus and arguably white berry. Nice low key caramel. It’s dry, fruity and bitter. Excellent.

22 oz. bottle from Costco. This one says 8.5% ABV. It pours a golden yellow color with a white head. The aroma has lots of stone fruit peach, pineapple, mango, passion fruit, a touch of cattiness and some soft, pale pilsner malt. The flavor is full with mango, passion fruit and pineapple. Strong grassy, lightly herbal bitterness. No caramel malt, but there’s a lot of dextrinous pale malt that gives it a full, oily body. The finish is fruity and lightly piney. Overall, a really nice hop focused IIPA. Love the Galaxy hop.

22 ounce bottle best before October 30th 2016.

It pours a clear straw yellow with ample foam and more than ample lacing.

Big grapefruit and tropical fruit in the smell. I can’t say that I pick up any of the malt.

Very hoppy and somewhat spicy hop taste up front. Grapefruit and tropical fruit, swishing the beer I get an earthy malt flavour but it is hard to pull out considering the massive hop presence.

Medium body on the high end, carbonation is suitable.

Overall, a very enjoyable DIPA.

Growler purchase from brewery.
Every time, this was poured into a snifter.
The appearance was a hazy burnt orange color with a decent transparency about it. The head was about a slim finger’s worth of white foaminess that dissipated within about less than thirty seconds and barely leaving any lacing, not worried (based on 4th pour , carbonation starting to leave the growler - I get it).
The smell had a light sweet to dank onion, little bit of fresh cut grass enlightened by a brisk lemon to light citrus blend of sweet grapefruit.
The taste was mainly sweet and allocated a nice bitterness enveloping the citrus to sweeten along my tastebuds. A dry sweet citrus aftertaste starts and leads to the same sort of finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a confusing sessionable to sipping quality about it. There were times I wanted to gulp but there were times I wanted to sip (9.4% showing, I dunno).
Overall, did the Galaxy hops show as much as I had hoped, hmmmm....maybe not as much. Still, this is a pretty good DIPA that I would have again though it is pretty dry.
