bottle from Vinoble-favrskov clear dark brown, smooth light brown head. sweet malty aroma, roasted grains,slightly nutty bitter, pretty nice aroma. mild complex porter. flavor is roasted malts, bitter malts, faint charchoal, caramelly and dark malty sweetness. Well brewed english style porter. good bitter balance from the hops.

Bottle. Creamy white good mostly lasting head. Balck colour. Light malty and hoppy aroma. Moderate bitter flavor. Average chocolate and roast notes. Moderate bitter finish, Oily palate. Nice balance.

Honey and toffee, with hints of maple syrup, good strength. Clear brown, headless. Thin mouthfeel. Bark with maple syrup overtones, but not terribly sweet. Ashy finish. Rustic and decent, with character.

Ah.... St. Peter’s. Always intriguing brews. This old-style porter pours a clean deep red-brown that can be seen through. The tanned head is bubbly and leaves a nice after-bubbles-pop lace on the glass. Aromas of grainy malts with mild molasses and notes of coffee. Good bitterness of hop in the taste, but yet, very smooth aftertaste. Caramel malt and some coffee in the mouth as well. Slight syrupy mouthfeel, mid-watery. A very pleasant porter, quite smooth, but for those who like the hoppy bitterness.

Pours dark copper with a small creamy tan head.For a porter the nose is really centred towards caramel, toffee and diacetyl rather than roasted barley. Not that it’s not noticeable, just not at the forefront. Which actually happens to appeal to me!Flavours show more roasted malt than the aroma, but there’s still a fair whack of caramel and toffee. It works quite well. Finish is a bit sharp and certainly dries out (quite a feat considering all that sweet malt!).Body is rather light, I would have liked something a little richer. Carbonation is too high.

[Cask at Monk’s Retreat, Reading] Deep ruby-brown with a small, loose tan head. Light carbonation leads into a very smooth, creamy mouthfeel. Roasted malts and the characteristic St Peter’s mineral bitterness from the off. Hints of coffee, earth and cough mixture, but really it’s a very simple balance of roastiness against bitter minerals. Surprisingly refreshing for a porter, and grew on me as I drank more. One of St Peter’s better efforts.

0.5l bottle, not the standard flat one, but a rounder one, from Vrutak in Zagreb. Poured a dark ruby body with a big brownish head that went away at a medium pace. Light dry sweet caramelly nose, some red fruit in there, maybe some dried figs mixed with cocoa. Surprising taste... light, slightly agrumey hopiness carrying good bitterness fighting with a sudden attack of ashy roastiness that leaves some ash behind in the aftertaste, sprinkled on some beets. Very light. Not an unpleasant beer, really far from it, but I find it quite hard to fully appreciate it and the fact I can find better and cheaper dark beers here doesn’t help.
