The God of Thunder requires but one sacrifice before granting access to its dark and malty depths. All thou needs to do is sacrifice one bottle cap into the rubbish bin. As the lager pours, clouds of darkness fold into the glass void, awakening a light-body and crisp finish. Thank you for your sacrifice.

Aromas are dark malt, roast, toffee and spice. Flavors are similar to nose with excellent balance between bitter, sweet and carbonation which is a bit soft. Add in a touch of cocoa. Really good drinking.

16oz can from Tavour. Dark brown pour with a thin, silky beige head. Roasty aroma with notes of chocolate and coffee. Taste is roasty, bitter, dark chocolate with light sweet notes. Coffee bitterness at the finish. Creamy.

On tap at Tenaya Creek, pours black / dark brown with a tiny beige head. Aroma brings out lots of cocoa nibs upfront, followed by subtle vanilla and chewy sweet malt. Flavour is robust, with cocoa nibs, vanilla and sweet bready malt. The booze is felt but is situated nicely. Clean and well-made.

At the source: pours near black with a beige head. Aroma is chocolate and maltiness. Some smokiness and burnt notes. Malty and pleasant to drink. Pretty solid.

Bottle. A- Alcohol, sharpie markers, anise, iron. A- Black color, black liquid, light brown head. T- Alcohol, umami, iron, black licorice. P- Full body, sharp texture, average carbonation, harsh finish. O- My first Nevada rate but not a good one. Bottle calls it a Baltic Porter, Ratebeer calls it an Imperial Porter...I’d say it’s neither. More like grain alcohol. This was hard and abrasive. Almost like paint thinner. Better as it warms but a long ways for good.

On draught at Public House in Las Vegas. Dark brown color with a medium tan head that dissipates quickly to a film. Short strings of lacing on the glass. Roast malt, coffee and hops in the nose. Medium body with flavors of earthy malt, roasted coffee and mild fruity hops. The finish is sweet with a malty aftertaste. Decent overall.

Bomber from Total Wine in Huntington Beach, CA. Pours very dark brown with a tan head. Aroma of dark fruit, dark malt with a coffee note? Med + body. There’s some very dark treacle, but not all that sticky, some very dark plummy fruit, and, yes, something suggesting chocolate or coffee. Finishes much closer to dry than expected, but it’s pretty malty in the finish. Not feeling any heat here. Nice drink.

22oz bomber pours with a nice dark body that supports a light mocha colored head of foam. The aroma offers up snippets of malts, molasses and then some prunes, brown sugar, chocolate and mild booziness. The taste starts with sweet malts and molasses mixed with mild dark roasted malts and then into a tasty chocolate note. This is pretty nice but it seems to be missing a few slivers of earthy and sweet dark fruity ester notes common to the Baltic Porter style (and a part of the style I really enjoy).
