Outburst Imperial IPA

22 oz. bottle, pours a clear copper with a small off-white head. Aroma of piney hops, candied sugar and caramel malts. Flavour of dry piney hops and just enough malt to back - not the greatest mesh of flavours, but still decently balanced. Good.

12oz bottle at Maxs. Refreshingly resinous and hoppy for my Sconnified palate. Piny, orange, grapefruit. Full-bodied, but well balanced. A straightforward, well executed IIPA.

12 ounce bottle from Wine Warehouse in Charlottesville, VA, opened 4/1/11. Pours a clear copper color with a thin offwhite head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of bitter floral, resiny and citrus hops. A bit of cattiness as well. The taste is bitter citrus hops, apricot finish. Some faint toffeeish malts. Medium bodied.

Botttle from the Natomas BevMo. Pours copper with a creamy beige head. Aromas of citrus rind over mildly roasted malt. Med + body. Flavor is lots of citrus rind - burns like zest, over some pretty roasty malt. There’s a lot of flavor here. It even seems there’s a little florality now and then. Pretty good stuff, tho perhaps with a bit too much sugar. Eh. Chacun à son goût

Slightly hazy orange coloured body with a thin white head. Aroma of fresh grapefruit and piney hops with a good resiny nose. Full-bodied; Very bitter and filling hoppy notes show first with a ton of malt backbone and a super strong thick and full-bodied malt flavour. Aftertaste shows a lot of hop bitterness, but even more alcohol. Overall, a good imperial IPA that is strong as hell with the alcohol and bitterness to show for it. Clear light copper and amber coloured body with a thin tan head. Aroma of strong hops, alcohol, resin, pine and a lot of malt and caramel. Full-bodied; Very resiny and piney flavour of hops tucked into a lot of malt and alcohol and a good amount of sweetness. Aftertaste shows a lot of hops, of course, a strong alcohol presence and a lot of malt too. Overall, a decent beer, strong as all hell, but not showing too much compared to other Imperial IPAs. I sampled this beer on draught and growler from the Walnut Creek, California brewpub on 18-March-2011.

Pour is a bright copper with a average white head. Aroma is some roasted caramel malt with a decent citrus hop. Flavor is excellent. A big thick oliy mouthfeel is followed by and intense fresh and flavorful hop. malts make a sweet appearance after the swallow that cuts some of the bitter hops. This is a real good beer and a nice price.

Exquisite bouquet of grapefruit peel, apricot, and tangerine. Clear copper, medium yellow head. Dry, perfumey, and resinous. Watery mouthfeel. Lots of grapefruit peel, orange peel, finishing a bit maltier. All in all a good beer, but as a friend of mine would say, "a bit like grandma’s perfume". It doesn’t need more sweet malt, it just needs less resin, which does improve with warming.

12 oz btl into snifter. Pours a clear copper with a medium white head; lace coats the glass from top to bottom. Aroma is grapefruit (peel in particular), some Christmas tree. Taste is bittersweet. The sweetness is candy sweet. Carbonation and body are medium. Mouthfeel is lightly creamy. Tasty, but average.

Taste: Fruits, citrus with bitter pine in the finish
A nice IIPA. Clean, crisp and easy to drink. Surprised to see it is 8.5% abv.
