330 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 9/16/2015. Pours pitch black color with a 1 finger dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted dark bread, caramel, toffee, light nuttiness/smoke, raisin, plum, cherry, fig, and yeast/roasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt and light-moderate fruity yeast notes; with great strength. Taste of big chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted dark bread, caramel, toffee, light nuttiness/smoke, raisin, plum, cherry, fig, and yeast/roasted earthiness. Lightly-moderate roasted bitterness and slight fruity yeast tartness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted dark bread, caramel, toffee, light nuttiness/smoke, raisin, plum, cherry, fig, and yeast/roasted earthiness on the finish for a good big. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light-moderate fruity yeast flavors; with a great roasted bitter/sweet balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-moderate dryness from roasted bitterness as well. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready, and lightly sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an outstanding English/Belgian porter hybrid! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt and light-moderate fruity yeast flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. I really liked how the Belgian character did not overtake the overall porter character of the beer. This was very malt forward in the flavor profile, with the yeast fruitiness being in the background; but still having good overall presence. A highly enjoyable offering.

0.33 l bottle from ’belgiuminabox.com’, best before July 2017 (probably brewed in July 2015). Clear, very dark red to black with a medium large, foamy, slowly diminishing, light brown head. Sweetish-malty, slightly roasty, moderately fruity and minimally funky aroma of dark chocolate, dark ripe fruits and some wood. Sweetish-malty, minimally sourish, roasty and fruity taste of dark chocolate, dark ripe fruits, red grapes and wood, followed by a short, slightly sourish, roasty finish. Medium body, slightly effervescent and minimally spritzy mouthfeel, almost flat. Nice, refreshing porter with a very subdued lambic touch.
