Ter gelegenheid van de viering van 200 jaar Franse revolutie ontwierp brouwerij Huyghe in 1989 het gelegenheidsbier La Guillotine, een hoppig bier met dry-hopping van 8,5% VOL alcohol. Heel vlug sloeg het bier in een tiental landen aan waardoor La Guillotine nu een eervolle tweede plaats heeft verkregen in het Huyghe gamma.
Kleur en uitzicht: Goudblond, meergranen bier met een zeer persistente, wandklevende schuimkraag.
Geur: In deze complexe geur, ontwaren we een citrusachtig aroma, gevolgd door hoparoma's zoals Saaz, Brewers Gold en Amarillo.
Smaak: De eerste aanzet is zoetig, komende van de aanwezige alcohol. De intense smaak en volmondigheid maskeren de aanwezigheid van de hoge bitterheid.

Head: large, white, creamy-to-frothy, diminihing. Colour: dirty golden, hazy with yeast flakes.
Aroma: fruity, peach, tangerine, some winy dryness.
Taste: starts fruity, then some dryness, ends spicy and peppery with some bitterness in the finish.
It has it all: fuittiness, aroma hops, dryness, spiciness and bitterness. And with all of this and 8,5 abv, I can drink it so easy! Gotta love Belgian beer...
UPDATE: Will rise the rating by 0,1. I actually prefer the fruitier aroma of Guillotine to maltier lollipoppy aroma of Tremens.

Taste: starts fruity, then some dryness, ends spicy and peppery with some bitterness in the finish.
It has it all: fuittiness, aroma hops, dryness, spiciness and bitterness. And with all of this and 8,5 abv, I can drink it so easy! Gotta love Belgian beer...

golden colour, significant white head; aroma of yeast, honey and fruits(apple and apricot); taste of hoppy bitterness (this is the most intensive one), honey, spices and some alcohol; not bad belgian strong ale

Bready, yeasty aroma of banana and apricot, a little shitty. Crystal clear golden, thick lacy head. Overripe lemon, with apricot overtones. Dry Finishes with bread crust. not as good as the more well known Huyghe beers. Overly carbonated.

330ml bottle from Vinmonopolet, Langnes. Large, airy, white head with a good stand leaving spots to the glass, clear golden body, cloudy last pour. Aroma of dough, bread and fruits. Sweet fruity taste including pears and oranges alongside a spicy touch with yeasty fruitiness to the ending. Semi-dry. Noticeable heating for the alcohol. Soft in the mouth, champagne like texture. Quite alright without leaving lasting impressions (at home in Tromsø, 07.03.2013).

Pours clear deep golden with a white head. Aroma has notes of malt, yeast and fruits. Taste is medium sweet and light bitter. Body is full, texture is oily, carbonation is soft.

Appearance: Clear golden color with a huge fluffy white head. Nice lacing.
Aroma: Rich acidic, yeasty and some fruity notes.
Palate: Medium body. Slightly sweet and a light bitterness. Average carbonation.
Taste: Mild fruity, acidic, yeasty and spicy notes.
Overall impression: Feels ok when I read my own rating. But it was to mild of everything. Lacked some punch.

Huge offwhite coarseish lasting head. Yellow body with strong carbonation made hazy by lots of little particles. Fruity spicy aroma with metallic notes. Dry-sweet earthy fruity taste. Very, very weak flavour, strange. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft mouthfeel. Dry mealy fruity aftertaste with earthy alcoholic herbal notes. It’s OK, but very low on flavour. Strange. (0.33l bottle, wine monopoly web order.)
