Duvel is a natural beer with a subtle bitterness, a refined flavour and a distinctive hop character. The unique brewing process, which takes about 90 days, guarantees a pure character, delicate effervescence and a pleasant sweet taste of alcohol.
Apart from pure spring water, which is the main ingredient of beer, barley is the most important raw material. Barley must germinate for five days in the malt house, after which malt remains. The colour of the malt and as a consequence also of the beer is determined by the temperature. Duvel obtains its typical bitterness by adding various varieties of aromatic Slovenian and Czech hops. We use only exclusive hops that are renowned for their constant, outstanding quality.
Duvel ferments for the first time in tanks at 20 to 26°C. The brewer uses his own culture for this. The original yeast strain, which Victor Moortgat himself selected in the 1920’s, originates from Scotland. After maturing in storage tanks in which the beer is cooled down to -2°C, the drink is ready for bottling. Thanks to the addition of extra sugars and yeast, the beer ferments again in the bottle. This occurs in warm cellars (24°C) and takes two weeks. Then the beer is moved to cold cellars, where it continues to mature and stabilise for a further six weeks. This extra long maturation period is unique and contributes to the refined flavour and pure taste of Duvel.

Bottle at Family Pub Malmö. Not nearly as fine as I thought it was, came across quite bland and lager like. That said, as with many Belgians, It grows on you thanks to a smooth adult finish and high volume. (16/5/18) --- Bottle at John Scoots, Mölndal. Very active with ploomy foam. An interesting mixed taste of bock and tripel. Went down rather nice. 3.3 to 3.5

Cerveza belga rubia.

Pours from 11.2oz bottle(room temp) a clear light gold with a huge billowy head of foam that hardly shrinks at all and has lots of lovely lacing.
The smell is very floral with strong notes of yeast and hops. Very nice..
The taste has a nice sour-bitterness(lemon?) up front with a lot of malty tones in the background and a heaping helping of yeastiness that is very complex and tasty. At 8.5%abv, there's some warming as it goes down but it doesn't show up too much in the taste at all. Very very nice indeed. The sourish finish is also very flavourful and lingering and that demands my taking another sip...great stuff!
I'm just pouring the last bit into my glass and I'm getting some sediment making for a more cloudy appearance and wow...the malt just kicked it up a few notches and some apple and clove. So many flavours come out of this brew during various times in the session. You just *can't* lose interest...it refuses to let you. ;^)
Bottom line: This is a very tasty Golden Ale that I've enjoyed every time I've had it. Highly recommended!!
