Duvel is a natural beer with a subtle bitterness, a refined flavour and a distinctive hop character. The unique brewing process, which takes about 90 days, guarantees a pure character, delicate effervescence and a pleasant sweet taste of alcohol.
Apart from pure spring water, which is the main ingredient of beer, barley is the most important raw material. Barley must germinate for five days in the malt house, after which malt remains. The colour of the malt and as a consequence also of the beer is determined by the temperature. Duvel obtains its typical bitterness by adding various varieties of aromatic Slovenian and Czech hops. We use only exclusive hops that are renowned for their constant, outstanding quality.
Duvel ferments for the first time in tanks at 20 to 26°C. The brewer uses his own culture for this. The original yeast strain, which Victor Moortgat himself selected in the 1920’s, originates from Scotland. After maturing in storage tanks in which the beer is cooled down to -2°C, the drink is ready for bottling. Thanks to the addition of extra sugars and yeast, the beer ferments again in the bottle. This occurs in warm cellars (24°C) and takes two weeks. Then the beer is moved to cold cellars, where it continues to mature and stabilise for a further six weeks. This extra long maturation period is unique and contributes to the refined flavour and pure taste of Duvel.

Kroger Bottle. I know I've had this in the past and needed another brew to fill up my mix-6. Was surprised to not see it rated by me. Pours golden with a large white head. Aroma is slightly fruity, yeasty, doughy, grassy. Flavor is grass, yeast, light fruits, dough, light spices.

Bottle at Black Prince, New Haw, 21/09/17. Marmalade comes to mind - both in terms of the bitter tinged boozy flavour and the colour. Hadn't had it for a while and was more boozy and heavy than I rembered. OK.

0,33 l bottle. Pours hazy light yellow with huge rocky lasting head. Unmistakable aroma of pilsner malt, citrus, fruity, spicy, yeast and a bit of barnyard funk. Taste is medium sweet with some decent bitterness. Body is medium, texture slick and carbonation above average. Finish is quite long, funky spicy bitterness.

Very pils, bit bitter, strong back.
*Edit* oh man I've grown a LOT since this. 2.75 original score.
7 years later and now I love Belgian. Luckily no toasts yet so I lucked out.

Only the second time I have had Duvel and the first in many years. I poured the contents of the 11.2 oz bottle as instructed, unhurriedly, into my Buffalo Bayou tulip glass. The liquid is yellow-gold and the healthy top is a bright white. I get a scent of spun sugar and yellow fruit. I take a sip, interesting, very little of the sweetness found in the nose. It imparts cereal, yeast, a bit of fruitiness and a surprising light hoppiness. It finishes dry and slightly bitter. Three more of the four pack to drink. Not bad duty.
