A long time ago (well, 2004), Pizza Port’s (Solana Beach, CA) Tomme Arthur and New Belgium’s Peter Bouckaert brewed an all Brettanomyces beer they called Mo’ Betta Bretta. In 2012, the two joined forces once again — this time at The Lost Abbey — to re-release this funky ale.
On the Imagination River…live some very curious Bullfrogs. Rumor has it they LOVE funky and wild beer. But it wasn’t always this way. Like most beer drinking frogs, they started out drinking mass produced beer. And for the most part, each was content drinking this beer. But then a new frog took up residence next door. He embraced funk and his inner wild child.
One day, while lounging on the lily pads, he broke out a special bottle of Mo Betta Bretta, a delicious blonde ale with a decidedly 100% wild fermentation carried out by Brettanomyces. Everything changed that day. Now when you get close to the reeds and listen, you can hear them croaking in unison…Mo Betta Bretta. And for that, we’re thankful these frogs have great taste in beer.

02.09.2014, 0,375l bottle @ home:
Nice slightly fizzy mediumlasting head. Aroma is kind of strange fruity, yeast, flowers, honey cake, hay, grain, rubber, weeds, caramel, almonds. Taste is slightly sweet fruity, hay, grain, flowers, honey cake, weeds, almond essence, yeast, caramel. Medium bitterness, slightly dry and watery mouthfeel. So disappointing! Nothing sour or bretty about this one...

Sredniawo. Powiem tyle ze mnie zawiodlo piwo, nie sadzilem ze az tyle bo zmierzyc sie z legendarnymi dzikimi piwami z Belgii to nie lada wyczyn. To piwo w niczym tych ze nie przypominalo. Brak calkowity piany kolor ciemno zloty, poczatkowo klarowny potem metny. Ale zapach nikly tylko swieze morele wyczulem. W smaku slodowe cos jak amber Ale skrzyzowane z wiedenskim lagerem. Prawie zero kwasowosci. Slodkawe nawet czasami mi sie wydawalo, Do niczego po prostu. Ta wspolpraca z New Glarus nie wyszla najlepiej. Niewielki plus za buteleczke i etykiete.

Bottle at Craig’s. Pours hazy amber, thin white head. Brett on the nose, but barnyard and straw. Taste has fruitiness, not as sour as expected. Confusing.

375 mL bottle from Ale Yeah, Roswell. Pours a hazy orange color with a thin frothy white head. Fair head retention. Aroma of earthy brett funk, mild barnyard, citrus, stone fruit, faint olive/vegetal notes. The taste is citrus, stone fruit, brett, caramel, bread, funk. Medium bodied, low carbonation, good balance. Nice beer.

Ins Glas ergießt sich ein goldenes Bier mit schöner Schaumkrone. Geruch leicht säuerlich, Brett, Gewürze. Geschmack säuerlich fruchtig, malzig süß, Karamell, blumig.
