The Abstrakt series continues to tantalise your taste buds with the latest member of the family, AB:11.
AB:11 is an imperial black barley wine brewed with ginger, black raspberries and chipotle peppers. A 12.8% rollercoaster of ginger zestiness, chipotle smokiness all bound together with dark berry tartness and the decadent residual body of a black barley wine.
Like all Abstrakt beers, AB:11 pushes the boundaries and challenges the perception of what beer is and what it can be. Brewed only once, AB:11 is excellent for drinking now, but also designed to be cellared for future enjoyment.

375ml bottle from Appellation Wines. Pours opaque black with a nicely proportioned thick crema head. The nose has smoked pepper, with sweetness, some sea salt, salty liquorice with a zing of ginger on the end. This beer seems to have umami. The taste has sweet, smokey peppers and ginger, running into salty liquorice. The palate is big in structure with a texture that is zingy in parts and smoky with a tangy finish, that somehow makes you want more, even though there is a rollercoaster ride up to that point. Overall, the only thing Iād change is the ginger. This without the ginger would be better.

Bottle at IndyManBeerCon, 2012. It pours opaque dark brown, with a thin tan head. The nose is Scottish tablet, toffee, treacle, light smokiness, chipotle, dark fruit and liquorice notes. The taste is liquorice, cocoa, treacle, roasted malt, salted caramel, toffee, ginger, light smoke, alcohol warmth and increasing chili heat, with a lightly spicy finish. Medium-full body and fine carbonation. Well balanced and flavoursome. I think this one works well, despite the crazy mix of ingredients. Looking forward to re-visiting this one with some age on it.
