The Abstrakt series continues to tantalise your taste buds with the latest member of the family, AB:11.

AB:11 is an imperial black barley wine brewed with ginger, black raspberries and chipotle peppers. A 12.8% rollercoaster of ginger zestiness, chipotle smokiness all bound together with dark berry tartness and the decadent residual body of a black barley wine.

Like all Abstrakt beers, AB:11 pushes the boundaries and challenges the perception of what beer is and what it can be. Brewed only once, AB:11 is excellent for drinking now, but also designed to be cellared for future enjoyment.

9,819 bottles produced.

Bottle @ "Det er meget mørkt i Ulfborg", November 2012. Pours nearly black with a small creamy head and lacings. Nose is dark malts, chili and massive ginger. Smooth and full bodied. Chewy. The ginger is too dominating. Vague roast, ash, white pepper and charcoal. Warmth..

Smell of herbs. Black colour, brown head. Heavy aroma of herbs and pepper, salmiakki, some coffee. Very oily. Next to zero carbon. A bit too high alcohol content.

Bottle at home. Rich black pour wa thin tan head. Visus with lot od head. Aromas of punchy ginger zestyiness, with some solventy alcohol. Flavours of big dark malt coffee initially the ginger dominates the back end of the flavour and a lingering smokiness. The palete is viscous with mid carbonation (high for a barley wine.) Very interesting beer, but to me the flavours not in balance. The ginger is too dominant and overpowers some of the malty character i want from a barley wine.. 2024-11-29 - bootle at home. Ginger has all but gone, bitter black malts, bitter black roast, hint of spice,.

28.10.2021. Bottle 1138. Very dark brown colour. Medium beige head, quickly disappearing. Aroma chocolate, roasted malt, light peat. Later light fruity notes, forest after rain, more peat. Light burning sensation in mouth, not sure if chipotle, ginger or just alcohol. Taste initially medium sweet, toffee, chocolate. Light fruity. Very light coffee. After a while almost medium roasted-peat bitterness kicks in. Alcohol evident. The finish is tart fruity and earthy, smoked, peat, both sweet and bitter. Considering the hype, this could be better. Very good, but not exceptionally good. 8 4 7 4 15 = 3,8 Rerate 22.2.2021. Bottle #5104/9819, bottled 08/09/12. Carbonation left this beer completely. Med-full body, surprisingly drinkable considering the ABV. Strength is hidden really well too - you get the impression of a strong sipper, but very little actual alcohol warmth. The berries really came to the forefront of this one, ginger and peppers only providing supporting hints. Lots of chocolate going around. Speaking of round, the overall impression is really smooth and round, the beer really enjoyable. If only there were a few bottles, this one aged really well. 8 5 9 4 17 = 4,3

Sample at a tasting at Systembolaget in October 2012. Bottle 1 of 9819. Clear, almost black with a small head. What a disaster, almost undrinkable! A mess of ginger, vanilla, spices, alcohol, sweet toffee, lime, some berries and notes of chili. Who buys this junk?

(Bottle, 0.375 l - bottle #6873 - 12.8 % ABV, at William K Kurvi, 20121019) The beer poured black. Its head was small and lightly brown. Aroma had a lot of clove, malts, sweetness and alcohol. Palate was full bodied, lightly burning and warming with medium carbonation. Flavours were clove, sweetness, malts, roasted malts and bitterness. Aftertaste was spicy and bitter. A spicy boozy mess.
