The Abstrakt series continues to tantalise your taste buds with the latest member of the family, AB:11.
AB:11 is an imperial black barley wine brewed with ginger, black raspberries and chipotle peppers. A 12.8% rollercoaster of ginger zestiness, chipotle smokiness all bound together with dark berry tartness and the decadent residual body of a black barley wine.
Like all Abstrakt beers, AB:11 pushes the boundaries and challenges the perception of what beer is and what it can be. Brewed only once, AB:11 is excellent for drinking now, but also designed to be cellared for future enjoyment.

Pours black with a mid sized head. Aroma is licorice and loads of pickled ginger. Flavour is dominated by pickled ginger. The chipotle shows up late and create a burning feeling on the lips.

Bottle @ Ratman’s house. Thanks Armin! Pours a brown appearance with a brown head. Ginger, light citrusy, somewhat spicy, light caramel nose. Tangy ginger, caramel, light toffee, very spicy, somewhat citrusy flavor. Fairly smooth but not my favorite flavor.

375mL bottle, pours nearly black with a small tan head. Aroma of ginger upfront, followed by chipotle peppers, a subtle hint of raspberries, but no typical barley wine notes. Flavour is extremely bizarre, with prominent ginger notes upfront, blurred with raspberries and some mild peppers, all with more typical barley wine notes: sweet caramel, candied sugar and some dark fruits. The spices somehow work in here, though it's not the most complex or elegant barley wine. Interesting experiment.

375 ml. bottle split 50/50 @ Delirium Hoppy Loft. Same design as the others, beautiful, simple front sticker, green bottle & impossible to get out plastic cork. Bottle nr. 9232 of 9819. This is apparently a 12.8 % Imperial barley wine with ginger, black raspberries and chipotle peppers. Pours blackish with a serious, lovely mocha head, big bubbles but stable. Wow, nose is strongly dominated by ginger, lots of pure sweet, fresh ginger & some ginger soda, its really pushing things in overdrive & dangerously close to overkill. I am also picking up on liquorice, creamy roast, lightly sticky barley, quite a bit of spices, molasses and some coffee. Taste features a similar ginger profile that dominates and borders on overshadowing everything. It takes quite a bit getting into it & getting used to it but eventually starts working. Also picking up on liquorice, sweet & bitter herbs, coffee, light roast & grains, bitter ginger tea, cough syrup dash, light brown sugar, sticky barley & barley wine in the back, caramel & light dried fruit. Medium sticky body. I might perhaps pick up some fruits but I am not really getting chipotle. It is interesting, quirky, slightly off-putting at first but overall nice. Is it worth the price, hard to say, it all of the previous things & few if any beers really deserve the high prices in the end.

Bottle shared. Pours very dark brown with a tan head. Aroma of big spices, molasses, herbal, mainly thyme, beef stock, pepper and some spice. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and light bitter, with pepper heat building in the finish. Full bodied with soft carbonation.

Bottled, from Systembolaget. Almost black, small head.Lightly smoky nose with cinnamon and ginger. Sweet and sticky with massively full body and clean mouthfeel. Some honey and licorice. heated peppery finish. As always from BrewDog a very experimental beer sold at a high price. While this is decent I’m getting less and less excited by the day to pay high prices for experimental one-off batches instead of enjoying readily tuned recipes.

Bottled. A pitch black beer with a tan head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, caramel, and alcohol. The flavor is sweet with notes of alchol, malt, and spices, leading to a dry alcoholic finish.

Bottle 37,5 cl. Courtesy of joergen. Pours a deep dark brown with a reddish hue and a tiny, beige head. Ginger dominate the nose atop some subtle roast. Rich body, sweet overripe fruit and subtle roast, and then again these gingery notes. Warming alcohol finish. 131212

Bottle 375ml. corked.[ Trade by madmitch76 ]. ABV: 12.8%. Clear dark black brown colour with a average to large, frothy - creamy, good lacing, mostly lasting, light beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, chocolate, spicy, coriander, moderate hoppy. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, alcoholc, dark malt, peppery - chili, spicy, coriander. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft, finish feel is moderate alcoholic. [20121116]
